I enjoyed Far Cry much more than Doom 3, as far as shooter's go. My opinion is that Doom 3 is a poor version of System Shock 2.
I haven't played a first person shooter in a long while, so it doesn't feel as repetitive to me.
Pity the text client doesn't show the URL you've offered.
I'd just like to mention I love fleeb.

that is the link to the review. Get smart. Get WEB. I bet you load that URL in lynx or something. :)

You can configure your server so that, when full, it can redirect
players to another server. In our case, we had 2 public CS servers
for our clan, and the admin configured it in this fashion - if you
tried to join server 1 when full it would bounce to server 2 and
back again until a slot was available. Was kinda funky.
Maybe you can do the same in UT? Just set up a vanilla server with
bots and then redirect everyone to your modified server :)

Here is a review of Doom3 that sums up my feelings for it. I think
I'm still going to play it through up to the 'Hell' levels, as I've
heard they're pretty good. But so far, I play doom for 20-30 mins,
then get tired of the repetition and turn it off.

sound, creepy ambience, etc)?
The best thing about SS2 was the sound. It made the game. The sound engine
in the old "Dark Engine" was unparalleled.
Doom 3 is one of the creepiest games I've ever played.
They do a fine job with the sound. You can track where things are based on the sound.
The lighting is superb, too.
The creep factor is somewhat modified if you follow my directions for playing this game (expressed in an earlier message).
Subject: Dawn of War Demo
Ok, last night I downloaded the demo for the upcoming Warhammer 40k RTS, Dawn of War, torrent here (or http://www.filerush.com/torrents/DoW_Demo_Install.exe.torrent for you text-client fuckers).
While I've not played the Demo itself, the intro CG movie is fucking amazing. I highly recommend installing the demo purely to watch the video.<>Now I'm moving into a new flat with shitty broadband (256k wireless) so my pro gaming days are over for a while. Someone throw me a frikkin single-player-reccomendation-bone here, I'm the boss-man, need the info!
So far my gaming plan is: Doom3 -> Baldurs Gate 1 -> KOTOR and I have my eye on Dawn of War and Evil Genius also.>
<>Enjoy your weekends.
In other news, the role of Doom Marine for the upcoming movie was named: Karl Urban, the kiwi who played as that Rohirim guy with the big eyebrows in LOTR, and also as the useless, pussy-whipped fuck in Chronicles of Riddick. Still, he does have a decent look (he was also the anonymous hitman in Bourne Supremacy).
Subject: Re: Doom3
original Doom (right down to the chainsaw). They should have done something
new (why bother calling it Doom 3 if it's just Doom 1 warmed over?).
As usual Carmack is making the same fucking promise he's made for the past
12 years..."Next game we'll do something totally new!" Bullshit, John.
Er, okay, so they decided to retell the same story using an engine that's completely updated, bearing 3d sounds that map to source, lighting that can truly add to the overall experience, and so on.
To me, it's kind of like taking the old Black-n-white Phantom Of The Opera, and reworking it with color, modern cinematography, CGI, and the latest acting methodologies. They're both good, but for different reasons.

Or, perhaps, rewriting Citadel in C++?
(or, worse, any .NET language?)
the Book of IG chapter 7 verse 9
*shocked look of consternation*
I LIKE ID software but dammit...back after Doom2 was released John said
"we're doing somehting TOTALLY and COMPLETELY NEW!!" Why? "Because I
don't want to do Doom 3". I desperately WANT them to do something new
and groundbreaking again but they just keep re-inventing the wheel.
And they keep saying "NEXT game will be TOTALLY and COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!"
I understand Quake IV is a "sequel" to Quake II. Uh...did anyone actually
pay attention to Quake II's boring, dreadful plot?
