And the Bards Tale name was sold previously, to someone. I forget who off the top of my head.

You are quite right: Interplay REALLY died the day "Titus", or whatever
the fuck that French conglomerate is called, bought the company and fired
Brian Fargo.

Fargo is right up there with Richard Garriott as far as I'm concerned.
Titus is obviously in the same arena as Electronic Arts.

(Incidentally...wasn't Titus the name of the Roman legionnaire that sacked
Jerusalem? Fitting name for an evil megacorp I guess.)

Yeah, but since it's a frog company, it's probably the name of Herve's favorite little snail. So far, it seems all the big companies come in, kill the small studio's, then die not too far afterwards. We can thank Interplay for killing Bioware and Black Isle. EA has killed off more studio's then I care to mention, but they seem to have the staying power so far not to die, even if they did take a MASSIVE loss from all their online crap.

Yeah, I remember seeing screen shots for a "New" Bard's Tale being produced
by someone...I need to look that up.

When Titus destroyed the Black Isle Studio division of Interplay, it was
obvious the end was near. I mean shutting down BLACK ISLE STUDIO--they
gave us Fallout, they gave us Planescape: Torment...the stupid fucks at
Titus obviously had no clue about the importance of Black Isle. They
WERE the creative heart at Interplay. Planescape stands out as probably
THE BEST RPG I've ever played.

What I'd like to see are the "properties" that companies like Titus and EA
are sitting on freed and released to someone that cares about them.
Specifically:

-The Bard's Tale (EA has been sitting on this for almost 20 years...Brian
Fargo said at one point that they DID try to negotiate a new Bard's game
with EA, but they refused)
-System Shock (FUCK EA for holding onto this. Give it to Irrational Games
you assholes! It's not like you plan on using it ever again...)
-Ultima (EA has no business fucking this particular corpse any longer. I
bet someone could do this series justice again if given half a chance. Those
Ultima V: Lazarus guys are doing amazing work...and the Ultima Dragons
have successfully put together a REAL Ultima online world on their UO shards.)
-Autoduel: this game has been begging for a sequel for a long, long time.
-Undying: this particular game, while not perfect, had LOADS of potential.
FUCK EA for ruining it (and yet holding onto the "property" so no one else
can use it). It's the old Fox Television syndrome: It didn't become as
successful as the X-Files in the first 3 weeks of release, so cancel the whole
damn series forever.

I thought Bioware was still around!? Black Isle though...god that makes
me angry. Of course Brian Fargo wouldn't have allowed it, but Titus
sacked him a while ago.

And EA...god if there's ever a company I wish would just DIE, it's EA.
Their buggery of the corpse of Origin is a mortal sin I can't forgive.
Plus they destroyed Bullfrog and so many other studios along the way.

I can still remember the days when Electronic Arts was actually a great
company...(back in the 8-bit Trip Hawkins days). Just seeing a new EA
title was enough for me to get my wallet out. But nowadays? Yecchhh.
EA used to pride themselves on being a haven for "electronic artists"...
now they're just a corporate blob, absorbing everything they touch.

THat's the pattern. Small publisher, tosses out good titles, becomes big, destroys that which made them good, dies. EA is just taking it's time about it. I was never that much into Ultima, Ygorl and Groo are the guys who knew everything about those two games. Bards Tales was the shit.

I'm still waiting for the remake of Alternate Reality. The best game, hands down. When that game died, I was heartbroken. Truth be told, with a few exceptions here and there, (mostly from new studios) I've got zero hope for any game coming out in the next 5 years. All of them are just remade crap we've seen time and time again, or remakes of old shit that was good, because it was the first we saw of their ilk.

As much as I loved the bards tale, I wouldn't want them to remake it, only because it would be a raping of my memories of the original game.

I lived and breathed Ultima for a long, long time :). Ultima: Ascension was
such a horrid pile of crap, and it's as much Garriott's fault for that as
it is EA. Still, seeing Origin die was quite upsetting...I had a picture
of Garriott holding shirts they printed up at the "Origin Funeral Bonfire"
that said "Origin: We Made Worlds" (I wonder if the back of the shirt
said "EA fucked it up").

I agree with you about the remakes. Ultima V: Lazarus will certainly be
good though since some Ultima Dragons are behind that one. And "Bard's
Legacy" looks to be an amazing remake of Bard's Tale (also done by fans).
Check out the screenshots: http://www.devilwhiskey.com/main.html
(I see it's called "Devil Whiskey" now, not Bard's Legacy)

Bioware is still around.

They're planning to update Neverwinter Nights again, soon. They have their Knights of the Republic about, and probably some other stuff here and there.
Dunno what new projects they've been working on, but they have a hell of a base.

they make it X-Box only.

From what I heard, so far it's coming out for the xbox, dunno if they're be doing a PC port.

Bastards. No PC port means one less sale from me, no matter how badly
I want to play it.

But it's probably too early to say. :)

Doesn't sound at all like the PC port of Halo was worth the wait.

They'd only play the "wait" game if they were owned by Microsoft.

It wasn't. The only reason to wait for a port is if it's a fps. I won't play a fps on the xbox. Need mouse and keyboard to enjoy fps. :>

Heh...I just can't see myself playing an FPS on any console. I hate the
typical console controllers--I'm right-handed, not left. Why are the movement
buttons/joysticks always on the left hand side nowadays? Every console
controller seems to be based on the old Nintendo design of 15 years ago.

Give me a Wico anyday!

I miss my old atari joystick. :>

The other thing that blows is the four front buttons. My index finger on my left hand doesn't work, severed tendon/nerve on the last portion of the finger, so I can't bend it without actually just bending it with my other hand, so those buttons are unusable to me.

I find that using these thumb controllers gives me thumb cramps too. :)
But I hate the left-handedness of current console controllers in a big way.
