*flips the bird to ford*

If I had never had to take my box off the net from my old job, this wouldn't be a question.

I'd give you an account on my box, but you wouldn't be able to access it while it's in the leather carrying case. <GRIN>

The "server push is the wave of the future" spiel is 8 years old, and it was silly even back then. Remember the rise and fall of Pointcast?

Push is coming back. As the media companies take over more and more of the net, it will become more one way like TV.

I was just about to say that. "Push" is the corporate dream of a future
internet...one that looks exactly like television.

Push failed because people didn't want it. They saw the "give me what I want when I ask for it" model of the Web and preferred to stay with it.

I don't see how the Pigopolists can effect a paradigm shift unless they can come up with a way to dismantle the Web.

Oh, and Schwartz has let it slip that when they say "identity management" they really mean "DRM." Fuckers.

Welcome to the future. A future where the right to use technology has been
completely removed from our hands.

Not really possible.

People will build their own machines if they have to. And ultimately money will win; people will buy what they want to buy.

What the capitalists forget is that in a market economy, the market rules, not them. If the people don't buy it, all your visions of a DRM encumbered future are for naught.

Today I got an email saying "your mps driver runs on linux, right?"
To which my response was, "not until you get me a linux dev box, it won't."
So there was a lot of running around today, beacuse everybody assumed I had already had this working. It'll build on linux, I'm sure, but I don't have a machine to build it on (the kicker is it needs oracle)
So they scraped a pos machine out of the back of an office somewhere and then they went hunting for a rhe 3 license so we could install it, and apparently we pay $2500 for a rhe 3 license.
We're the phone company, we can do that.
