well, we needed a new TV for our family room because the old one was way too small. So we got one with HD capability and when I saw the price difference for DishNetwork it really wasn't much more per month.

*shrugs* YMMV

hubert: I'm with you on that one. (And the fact that we both have a TV/Radio engineering background makes it even more significant.) HD is pretty but I don't see the appeal for anyone other than videophiles with money to burn.

I'll be keeping my SD gear running for quite some time.

I certainly wouldn't call it a hassle.... And overall, it's not terribly expensive these days either.

I saw rather a lot of difference i the quality. Sort of like getting a new pair of glasses. You don't realize the quality difference until you put on the new glasses and it's like, "Damn!"

IMO, it's a pretty big difference.

But we don't even own a tv...

if we had the budget for it, I'd totally want HDTV.

The quality difference is really amazing.....

If you need to buy a new TV, it doesn't make sense to not get an HD model.

And the cost of DirecTV and DirecTV HD was $2 a month. Well worth it.

I suspect that we won't be getting a tv anytime soon. by the time we get one, HDTV will probably be the default anyway ;)

Cost of not upgrading my SD gear: $0

If I were buying a *new* TV I suppose I'd look at HD-ready models if the price difference was not significant.

IG - You'd also have to upgrade your television display space.

I know it's sacrelidge, but I think John O'Hurley might actually make a tolerable host for the Price is Right. Officially I am still of the opinion that they should retire the show with Bob.... but since no one EVER listens to meeee....  sigh

I think I'm more of a content person. That's why I don't get jazzed over HD.

LadyHawke - Thanks for the link. I'm downloading the "Enterprise" MP3 now. I hope that it's the one without the guitar. That was the early version. They added the guitar and it sucked.

Oops. That was totally NOT the right music. *sigh*

Can you imagine watching old Doctor Who or Blakes 7 in HD? <shudder>
