well, one could call this a 'video postcard'

its got a little screen to play the dell commercial on.

after it did that, its just disposal. so, the little screen, the processor, the ram, everything inside is just a one way product.

I'm sure the component costs are negligible; the magic is in the assembly costs; by using Chinese workers paid $0.03 a day instead of using expensive machines, you can get a lot done...

Please refer to IG's First Law of Everything for the explanation of why the USA has not gone metric yet.

I think I mentioned this somewhere else recently -- since food packagers always seem to be slyly reducing the size of their packages in order to avoid raising the price, they ought to take the opportunity to go metric.  An 8 ounce can of tuna now contains only 5 ounces (barely enough for one sandwich).  The next time they shrink the can they could go to 100 grams (3.527 ounces) and most people won't know what hit them until they need to buy two or three cans just to make lunch.

Does anyone have experiences with IP cameras, wireless or otherwise. Comments suggestions appreciated.

I suspect he's referring to the surveillance variety, rather than the webcam variety.

Unfortunately, zooer, I do not, though I'm hoping to get some practical experience, as some things have been happening in my neighborhood which have given me cause to start investigating such a system.

Yes I was talking about "security" type cameras not web skype type of cameras. From what I am reading, you have to spend a few bucks to get quality. There
are plenty of cheap cameras available, but the quality is lacking. I have fooled around with "motion" using web cameras, but wanted something better. I
could not get Zoneminder to work on my older machine but I didn't put too much effort into it.
I would like a decent outdoor IP camera, not necessarily for security but it could be used for that

I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has located a *cheap* IP camera. I'd love to deploy a few of them in and around my house -- partially for security but mostly for the fun factor. :)

The ninjas do not need to be seen; we will take care of them using explosives planted on the decoy snowblower.

<looks at the weather>

One snowstorm the entire season. Looks like you lost this round.

Need a new laptop. Was looking at perhaps Asus K53E-BBR15 for $449.99: http://deals.bestbuy.com/laptops2/product/4854891/asus++156quot+laptop++4gb+me
mory++500gb+hard+drive++matte+dark+brown+suit

or

Samsung NP305E5A-A03US for $479.99: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=176
6274&CatId=4938

There is also a Toshiba and Gateway lappy with similar specs (either Core i5-2450M or AMD A6-3420m).

Comments/suggestions/s? How do Asus/Samsungf/Gateway/Toshiba stack up against the other? Longevity? Durability? etc.?
