So I saw Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Marketing Department.

Lots of things that didn't add up.
The first death star took 20+ years to build, the second one took three months?
Leah: My mother was a sad woman. SHE WAS DEAD.
And overall, though better than ep1 and 2, it just shows how bad 1 and 2 were. Really they stood up on the pedastal created by 4, 5, 6, so were okay, but if only by themselves, they rather sucked.

The original Star Wars was family entertainment. The story didn't stand up to close scrutiny, but it didn't have to. It was just a space adventure.
The problem now is trying to make serious SF out if it... Lucas takes himself too seriously and so do these films... I haven't seep episode 3 yet, but I can see people liking episode 1 as it catches some of the fun of the original and is not so pompous as the second (and I am guessing the third).

Nope, Palpatine always had a backup plan. He probably started the 2nd Death Star a couple years after he took power. It says about as much in one of the novels.

It's also easier to build to spec rather than design the prototype ;) not that I think three months is reasonable after 20 years...

There is now a Lego version of the half-finished DS from Ep. VI.

okay, remember in the movie, and as it shows in this picture.
That little bit on the lower right?
What could that possibly have been for?
Actually forget that for the moment... The artist guy who planned that, what was HE thinking?
Is that some kind of weight distribution solution?
actually for that matter, by building something that big unevenly, there's enough mass to have a gravitational field, the thing wouldn't spin very well on it's axis being so lopsided...

I guess the Imperial Crust crew got ahead of the Imperial Magma crew.

I noticed something the other day, watching a burger king print commercial - they gave Darth Vader a package. I mean, it's been a while since I saw the first three (the last re-release), but I don't recall Vader looking like he's got a small garden hose before. What did Lucas do? Well, I can't really beef him up, and since what's-his-name will actually be in the suit, he'll be a little shoter... Hmmm... let's increase his dick since, then.

Eh, who says the DS would have to be evenly weighted? They do all this magic with force fields, no?

Yeah, I thought Vader was a bit lesser myself. No David Prowse in there. :D Speaking of whom, I got to see the real DP when I rented Clockwork Orange recently. Looked like a geek with muscles.

He's also in The Tomorrow People, painted silver wearing a loin cloth. Less geeky, but damn those muscles.

Damn this room never gets purged.. Good. I was having a discussion today about one of our favorite topics.. Princess Leia and her gold tinfoil bikini. Do we need an ice queen take on things here?
