athos-mn: Re: Battlestar Galactica.

I haven't really analyzed it far enough to decide whether it's dark or daring, but, personally, I think the new show is absolutely excellent. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a sap, and a good tear-jerking movie will get to me, but I've never had a fiction-genre TV show get to me, and "Battlestar Galactica" has done that a few times already.

I'm tempted to say that the new BG is better than "Stargate SG-1" and I'm a pretty die-hard Stargate fan.

I'm not sure who's worse, Scientology or Jehova's witnesses.

I'd have to agree- mormons are the worst. I lived in Evanston, there's way too many of them there.

I've also said that I don't mind religion as long as they don't try to push it onto other people saying it's the "true" religion or whatnot... and the mormons just don't know when to stop.

No, no they're not. They're above Scientology and Jehova's Witnesses. See, mormons don't hold you in the back and torture you.

I was in the mormon church for 20 years. I know how they work. Mental mindfuck, yes. Physical torture and beatings? No.

See, in the Jehova's Witnesses, beating children and in particular, girls, is A-OK. I've talked to a woman who grew up in the jehovas witnesses. Women are nothing but punching bags. And going to the police is heracy. A kid thats told from birth that
looking for help outside the church is going to KILL THEM, isn't going to call the cops.

The mormons are mind numbingly boring, uncreative, hypocritical, pushy and
conformist, but they don't advocate beating and raping little girls!

I just wrote 'mormons' because I thought it was funny.

I think all three of them are sci-fi religions, though.

Sci-fi religions? I can see that with maybe scientology but Mormons and Jehova's Witnesses?

Mor(m)ons don't rape little girls.

They marry them.

Sounds like Amway. So far I've been given 2-3 copies of the mormon book. All copies wound up in file #13.

Anyone seen the first episode of the new Doctor Who series that was leaked to the net?

I wish I could see any of the new Who. I see March 26th is the premiere, but not for us poor fans over here. I fear it may be a long time before it makes it over here legally. SciFi passed and BBC America is useless when it comes to Doctor Who. Personally I'd prefer it to more than one show they do carry, but oh well.

Chances are that it'll be on a bunch of torrent sites, and posted on the doctor who binaries newsgroup. I'm sure a US station will pick it up; I just hope it's one I get.

I thought about looking for torrents, but that's always a bit dicey and part of me really struggles with the whole idea. Sometimes I have too many morals.

I've grabbed shows I've missed or forgotten to set me PVR for in the past, but I can justify those because they were shows that were either on broadcast networks, or basic cable stations I already pay for.

I read in an article that the BBC is continuing to look into the possibility of allowing anyone globally to pay for their programming distributed in a bit torrent like manner, but I bet since they are going to use some form of DRM that it will exclude OS X for sure.

seems like people are being conditioned by mind-rays into a 'pay many times for the same fucking thing'  mentality. I'm glad I'm wearing my tinfoil hat and underpants.

Dr Who is broadcast, through the air, for anyone in britain with a TV to watch. I see no problem with sharing that around for others who missed it.

Note, that btefnet has Battlestar Galactica also, amongst other shows of note. No Firefly though, wtf!

For you mac osx people, Videolan Client is the way to go for all digital viewing:

The Quicktime viewer plays .avi's pretty well; Videolan is great for those oddball codecs, but the interface is a little clunky (IMHO).

Apparently there's been some problems converting the new Who avi's to MPEG for use in VCDs (although for me Toast Titanium works great - if slowly). I've been posting those up to Demonoid.

I hope you're being facetious, bella.

This is The Internet - a big, bad place, unfit for grammar, political correctness or facts.
