Subject: Commissioners urge delay in FCC plan to regulate ‘every nut and bolt’ of Internet

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

The two Republican members of the Federal Communications Commission are urging the Democratic chairman to delay a high-drama vote on a secret Internet regulation plan, with one warning the proposal would "impose rules upon almost every nut and bolt" of how Americans use the Internet.

I think everyone's wrong about this. I'm a hard core conservative and I'm in favor of net neutrality. What's being regulated isn't "every nut and bolt of the Internet" but rather the last-mile connections which are provided over already-granted monopolies. Damn straight that needs to be regulated.

It isn't so much about what the FCC did "today" but more about how it leaves the door wide open for the obamanoids to *really* fuck with it.

Those are reasonable observations. My objection to the whole discussion as has happened so far is that the pundits quickly boiled it down to "the government taking control of the Internet" -- which of course resulted in Democrats supporting it and Republicans opposing it.

It's more complicated than that, dammit!

If I were the FCC Commissioner -- and I propose immediate deposition into a wood chipper for anyone who doesn't think my appointment as the Commissioner would be a great idea -- I'd rip out most of the telecom regulations already in existence and replace them with ONE regulation:

1. You can be a provider of last-mile circuits, *or* you can be a provider of services (voice, data, video, etc). You can't be both.

I've posted about this before. It's a one-step solution that fixes *everything*.
There's no difference between local and long distance. There's no difference between voice and data. There's no difference between public and private networks. The moment you are granted space on the utility poles or in the underground conduits, your *only* job is to operate a local network that connects service providers with subscriber premises.

If last-mile network operators were prohibited from being service providers, and were obligated to sell connectivity to all service providers at the same price, the network would be "neutral by nature" without the need for any further regulation.

My solution is, of course, perfect, and therefore would be frowned upon by both government and corporate types.

It remains to be seen what the FCC will do with their new authority but I'm worried enough. Everybody misunderstands what's happening with Netflix, for instance.

That's fine. Can you send Bibi over here then? He's an excellent leader and he clearly loves America far more than the anti-semitic piece of shit we currently have in the white house. And it seems that the requirement for POTUS to be a natural born citizen was dropped in 2008, so that's of no concern either.

This is one of my all time favorite quotes.

“Look, I run a show here. It’s a lot of smoke and noise and it’s strictly for the suckers. I’ve been pulling one kind of scam or another since I was your age, and if there’s one thing I know it’s how to spot the genuine article because that’s what you’ve got to watch out for. Not the cops, you can always get around the cops. But the one thing you can never, ever get around is the genuine article, and you, kid, are the genuine article.”
-- Steve Martin, as Jonas Nightengale in "Leap of Faith" (1992)

When you've built your entire world around lying and cheating, the genuine article is an existential threat.  That's why the liberal establishment gets so rabid when you mention Sarah Palin or, now, Ted Cruz.

That's kind of the point.  They know they can't afford another Reagan.  That's why they set out to destroy anyone who has the potential.

The absolute fastest way to make a commie's head explode is to talk about Sarah Palin.  Now it's looking like Ted Cruz is the next in line for that treatment.

The fastest way to drive a conservative crazy is to call Sarah Palin "stupid".

Facts about Reagan (with links to other facts)

Reagan, a former union leader, was all talk and no action when it came to limit government at both the state
and federal levels.
