It's more complicated than that, dammit!
If I were the FCC Commissioner -- and I propose immediate deposition into a wood chipper for anyone who doesn't think my appointment as the Commissioner would be a great idea -- I'd rip out most of the telecom regulations already in existence and replace them with ONE regulation:
1. You can be a provider of last-mile circuits, *or* you can be a provider of services (voice, data, video, etc). You can't be both.
I've posted about this before. It's a one-step solution that fixes *everything*.
There's no difference between local and long distance. There's no difference between voice and data. There's no difference between public and private networks. The moment you are granted space on the utility poles or in the underground conduits, your *only* job is to operate a local network that connects service providers with subscriber premises.
If last-mile network operators were prohibited from being service providers, and were obligated to sell connectivity to all service providers at the same price, the network would be "neutral by nature" without the need for any further regulation.
My solution is, of course, perfect, and therefore would be frowned upon by both government and corporate types.
It remains to be seen what the FCC will do with their new authority but I'm worried enough. Everybody misunderstands what's happening with Netflix, for instance.
In other news ...
The Leader of the Free World is going to address Congress on March 3. A well-known terrorist and his accomplices are boycotting the event, preferring instead to assist in arming Iran with nuclear weapons.
It didn't look like he was getting the cold shoulder...
The boy did us proud. :)
Which is not to say that I'm voting for his party...
I'm voting for one of the other two parties which will only make a coalition with likkud. Not decided on which yet.
*sigh* the thought of bibi with access to a real military and not having the whole world second guessing his moves... omg... ISIS could be gone in a week.
This is one of my all time favorite quotes.
“Look, I run a show here. It’s a lot of smoke and noise and it’s strictly for the suckers. I’ve been pulling one kind of scam or another since I was your age, and if there’s one thing I know it’s how to spot the genuine article because that’s what you’ve got to watch out for. Not the cops, you can always get around the cops. But the one thing you can never, ever get around is the genuine article, and you, kid, are the genuine article.”
-- Steve Martin, as Jonas Nightengale in "Leap of Faith" (1992)
When you've built your entire world around lying and cheating, the genuine article is an existential threat. That's why the liberal establishment gets so rabid when you mention Sarah Palin or, now, Ted Cruz.
"Government is not the solution to the problem.
Government IS the problem."
That's kind of the point. They know they can't afford another Reagan. That's why they set out to destroy anyone who has the potential.
The absolute fastest way to make a commie's head explode is to talk about Sarah Palin. Now it's looking like Ted Cruz is the next in line for that treatment.
Facts about Reagan (with links to other facts)
Reagan, a former union leader, was all talk and no action when it came to limit government at both the state
and federal levels.
The fastest way to drive a conservative crazy is to call Sarah Palin "stupid".
Tina Fey *is* stupid. But there are an awful lot of people out there who can't tell the difference.
On the other hand, I just sent an email to Ted Cruz telling him that I'm going to vote for Hitlery unless he fixes the "unsubscribe" button on his mailing list.
