Subject: Federal judge temporarily blocks Obama's immigration executive action

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A federal judge has granted a request by 26 states to temporarily block President Obama's executive action on illegal immigration to allow a lawsuit aimed at permanently stopping the orders to make its way through the courts.

Unfortunately, the measles virus does not care what a fedaral judge thinks.  Until we actually defend the border, the virus and its hosts will continue crossing over.

Everything would improve if we simply unapologetically deported every illegal immigrant (including Obama himself).

No, I meant the Eastern Band of Cherokees in North Carolina (their ancestral home until the Trail of Tears).

I think Marshall, Will and Holly would have them beat by a long shot (assuming that was still North America).

Back then, who knows? You'd almost think it could have been Gondwanaland or something.

Actually, I don't know if the dinosaurs predated or postdated those kinds of plate tectonics.

Oo, but maybe the sleestacks could reclaim the world!

Little known fact: Will and Holly strongly disagreed with the Marshall Plan.
They knew that the Sleestacks would simply waste all of the money and turn Europe into a neo-sleecialist continent.

Subject: Commissioners urge delay in FCC plan to regulate ‘every nut and bolt’ of Internet

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

The two Republican members of the Federal Communications Commission are urging the Democratic chairman to delay a high-drama vote on a secret Internet regulation plan, with one warning the proposal would "impose rules upon almost every nut and bolt" of how Americans use the Internet.

I think everyone's wrong about this. I'm a hard core conservative and I'm in favor of net neutrality. What's being regulated isn't "every nut and bolt of the Internet" but rather the last-mile connections which are provided over already-granted monopolies. Damn straight that needs to be regulated.

It isn't so much about what the FCC did "today" but more about how it leaves the door wide open for the obamanoids to *really* fuck with it.

I wont blame the obamanoids until it happens. There are plenty of other administrations that can do a lot of
damage.

Those are reasonable observations. My objection to the whole discussion as has happened so far is that the pundits quickly boiled it down to "the government taking control of the Internet" -- which of course resulted in Democrats supporting it and Republicans opposing it.

It's more complicated than that, dammit!

If I were the FCC Commissioner -- and I propose immediate deposition into a wood chipper for anyone who doesn't think my appointment as the Commissioner would be a great idea -- I'd rip out most of the telecom regulations already in existence and replace them with ONE regulation:

1. You can be a provider of last-mile circuits, *or* you can be a provider of services (voice, data, video, etc). You can't be both.

I've posted about this before. It's a one-step solution that fixes *everything*.
There's no difference between local and long distance. There's no difference between voice and data. There's no difference between public and private networks. The moment you are granted space on the utility poles or in the underground conduits, your *only* job is to operate a local network that connects service providers with subscriber premises.

If last-mile network operators were prohibited from being service providers, and were obligated to sell connectivity to all service providers at the same price, the network would be "neutral by nature" without the need for any further regulation.

My solution is, of course, perfect, and therefore would be frowned upon by both government and corporate types.

It remains to be seen what the FCC will do with their new authority but I'm worried enough. Everybody misunderstands what's happening with Netflix, for instance.
