I have yet to find a good gin and tonic.  So far it just reminds me of cleaning bathrooms in the army.  Not a pleasant memory on any morning (especially a Monday morning).  But, this is a subject best left for another room at another time.

Hey, did anyone catch that Nazi propaganda film that was on TV at 8:00

last night?

Yes. But after about 3 minutes I grew tired, bored, and irritated and turned OFF the State of the Union address.,.

No SotU address in modern times has ever been about the state of the union.
Modern communication technology makes it obsolete; partisan politics make it intolerable. I guess since it's written directly into the Constitution (you know, that document that's printed on the toilet paper in the ObaObama's office) it would require a Constitutional amendment to remove it.

The constitutional reqirement that the President report annually on the "state of the Union" does not require a speech before Congress or anyone else.

This is (relatively) recent in our history.

Prior to the first (Woodrow Wilson, I *think*) the SOTU was delivered as a written report.

Just think if Obama did that today.
The Conservatives would get to GRADE it, and return it with grade and interlinear/margin comments!

"Sorry, Barack. Maybe you should take this home and try again."

Using the Flesch-Kincaid readability test—the most well-known reading comprehension algorithm—Vocativ analyzed
over 600 presidential speeches, going back to George Washington. We measured syllables along with word and
sentence counts, and gave each speech a numerical grade.

Well, I'm pretty sure the Voight-Kampf test has been applied to Shrub, and he scored "Replicant." ;)

Couple things here--

(1) presidents don't write their own speeches, obvs.
(2) this shouldn't be a surprise. maybe they used to write their own speeches, but since it's now outsourced to the handlers, speeches are being written for comprehensibility & wide accessibility - in other words, dumbed down...

Well, with declining educational standards, you need to make your speeches more accessible.

Ohhhh how we laughed and laughed at his witty remark.

Did you look at the article and see the scores?

They write speechs at a fourth grade level, so the masses can understand.

I read Jim Clifton's blog on this subject before it made it to other news agencies. It's very damning, particularly as he's the CEO of Gallup, and can speak on this issue with a certain measure of gravitas:

Finally... this is precisely the sort of thing I've been wanting someone to say for a while now, someone in this man's position:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/13/us/politics/fbi-director-comey-speaks-frankl y-about-police-view-of-blacks.html

"Mr. Comey said tensions could be eased if the police got to know those they were charged to protect.

'It's hard to hate up close,' he said."
