Subject: Herrera leads Phils' hit parade vs. Braves

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A suddenly red-hot Odubel Herrera recorded three hits and Tommy Joseph drilled a towering first-inning home run against Bartolo Colon, whose latest ugly outing enabled the Phillies to open a four-game series with Monday night's 11-4 win over the Braves at SunTrust Park.

Subject: O-double! Hot Herrera sets mark, plays spark

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Good thing the Phillies kept Odubel Herrera in the big leagues, huh? Herrera had been in a season-long funk that had some frustrated Phillies fans asking the front office to option him to Triple-A. But after being benched for the third time in four games Friday against the Giants, Herrera is on a tear.

Subject: Behind Nola, Phils stretch win streak to 4

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Howie Kendrick homered and Odubel Herrera added another key extra-base hit as the Phillies manufactured enough damage against a recently stingy Jaime Garcia to claim their fourth straight victory, a 3-1 win over the Braves on Tuesday night at SunTrust Park. The Phils' Aaron Nola, who surrendered a first-inning run, blanked the Braves over the remainder of his eight-inning effort.

Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff hopes to get back on track Wednesday night against right-hander Mike Foltynewicz and the Braves at SunTrust Park. Subject: Phils' OF trio continues to swing hot bats

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Pete Mackanin finds himself in a bit of a pickle. The Phillies manager said before Tuesday night's 3-1 victory over the Braves at Turner Field that he has four outfielders that need to play evenly, but at the moment, it is hard to justify not having Odubel Herrera, Aaron Altherr and Howie Kendrick in the lineup. That leaves out Michael Saunders, who did not start for the second time in three games.

Subject: Gross leads Phils' list of prolific pinch-hitters

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A pinch hitter is a batter used as a substitute for another batter. A pinch hitter only comes into the game when the batter whose turn he is taking is due to bat. He is then "announced into the game"; the batter which he replaced is out.

Mike Foltynewicz produced another gem and Dansby Swanson made sure this one wouldn't go to waste.
