Subject: Mackanin: Righty Anderson 'looks very poised'

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Drew Anderson hasn't pitched above Class A. Two seasons ago, he didn't pitched at all while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He has appeared in only 49 professional games since the Phillies drafted him in the 21st round in June 2012.

It came during one of those flurries of lineup changes that happen during Grapefruit League games. In the top of the seventh inning of the Phillies' game against the Braves on Saturday at Spectrum Field, Andrew Knapp entered the game as a defensive replacement at first base.

Mike Wright, who is competing for one of the final spots in the Orioles' bullpen, started and pitched three innings, allowing a run on two hits in the Orioles' 3-2 win over the Phillies on Sunday. Subject: Mackanin sees upside in WBC '17 departures

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

The Phillies are off Monday, and there will be fewer players in the clubhouse when the team gets back to work Tuesday. Not because the organization has made its first roster cut of the spring, either. Because right-hander Nick Pivetta, who started Sunday's split-squad Grapefruit League game against the Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium, is leaving to join Team Canada in preparation for the World Baseball Classic.

Subject: Quinn's talent, athleticism has Phils' attention

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Orioles All-Star Adam Jones crushed the ball, absolutely crushed it, to dead center field. If it didn't carry over the fence, it was good for an easy double. Maybe even a triple or inside-the-park home run. Except that Phillies center fielder Roman Quinn was on the case.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Roy Halladay has been busy since he threw his final pitch for the Phillies in 2013. But Halladay, who is one of the greatest pitchers of his generation, wanted more, which is why he joined the club this week as a guest instructor.
