I was riding in a car with an aquaintance and he put on this music that seemed to me uplifting and exhillarating and I'd not only never heard it before, I'd never heard the name of the artist before. Lindsey Stirling. I guess sometimes living under a rock has its drawbacks. She makes me wish I could play violin. She is just so awesome. So I bought an album on itunes and put it on my phone and listen to it all the time now.

Well, one of my Youtube videos earned its first dislike yesterday.

Someone from the UK didn't particularly like my Goofy Ol' Fleeb video. The person didn't leave a comment, though.

For anyone here who hasn't already seen it, it's 12 seconds of just silly stupid video and music I threw together while testing Audacity.

That was the best 12 seconds of my life. With any luck it will make it to Red Eye, if they still use those
silly videos.

Hrm... not familiar with Red Eye, but I probably ought to be more embarrassed than I am.

Eventually someone will post a video "10 hours of goofy silly ol' fleeb"

I sure hope YouTube has figured out how to do deduplication :)

*laughs*

Before that happens, I should try to make a version of the tune that loops well.

I am re-discovering The Knee Plays (Byrne and Eno).  As an autistic / asperger, I loved that back in the day.  Probably stupid to most music lovers, but I could get in to that :-)

I especially liked this one for some reason:

Social Studies (Knee Plays).  It is better on the album than live, but still a good copy.  Kinda stilted live, but reminds me of the record.  I miss records, spinning, spinning, bobbing and spinning.....

My stepmother said of Byrne that he's insane. "Nobody can fake that look," she said of the video he did where someone projected his face onto a pavement while driving around.

Of course, she's the loony.

Nice piece of music, though. I rather liked that.

On another subject, I found myself looking around for some background music I could safely play behind some video I created today, and found some of Google's 'you can safely play this stuff' music to be pretty decent.

It won't win awards, but it won't make you curl up into the fetal position and pray for civilization to end.

As a sometimes writer of video games and such, can I ask you for a link for some of that - not make you want to die on the spot music?   It would make some of my later efforts less silent movie type efforts :-)

You can try going to https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary and see if it'll show up for you.

If not, you might need to set up an Youtube account.

But, they do have terms and conditions for its use. If you can use it, great, but I'm not 100% sure from what I've read of the terms. I get the sense they intend for the music to be used in your videos, but they do say 'other content that you create', so...?

Thanks IG.  Some good stuff there.  Might just have to write something to fit what is available :-)

I may give Dano a look as well. While I don't expect to use a lot of music in my videos, when I do, I'd like to find something that isn't as well known as the other stuff out there.

Big Butt Bear used to have a lot of danosongs.com music, but now that Wes is using YouTube's built-in video editor he tends to just stick with the music library that's already there. The intro/outro music for my famous generator video is also from danosongs.com

I m going to be turning 37 soon. It really struck me when Ig said he knew how to play 4 musical instruments. How awesome is that? I know many people who can play at least one instrument. But I never learned any. And I was thinking, maybe I'm not too old to start. I know, most people learn as kids. But. Maybe I could try to learn something too.
Which instruments do you play, Ig?

I know he played the flute, but I don't know what other instruments he plays.

As for me, I have played the following instruments before an audience:

Trumpet
Bass
Tuba
Euphonium
Bassoon
Tenor Recorder
Voice (Tenor, Baritone, and Bass ranges as needed, actual range is Baritone)
Percussion (odd instruments... but was in a percussion ensemble in college)

I played clarinet for a few years, then switched to euphonium/baritone
horn through high school. I filled in for the third trombone in our
jazz band with a valve trombone after he got kicked out of school for
drugs, but that was only for a quarter or so.

When the marching band mustered at college that first fall, I stood with
the sousaphone players, so I played tuba/sousaphone for a few years. I
couldn't afford the classes to actually take band (not being a music
major), so I just showed up every year for marching band. They didn't
take attendance or really do much paperwork; they generally didn't
figure out I wasn't actually signed up for band until I stopped showing
up at the end of marching season. I did this the last few years.

Around that time I started playing bass guitar when I inherited my
little brother's (he'd upgraded). I did this in a lackluster fashion
for a
few years. I started to get into it and practice more a few years
ago, added a regular electric guitar last fall. In the spring I bought
some drum sticks, method books, and a practice pad.

My kids won't lack for instruments if they're interesting in giving
something a shot. I'm not really GOOD at any of them, but I'm
fair-to-partly-cloudy on quite a few.

Heh... I found myself eating brief lunches and attending the choir classes since I couldn't take two sets of music courses. I would have taken every music course available when I was in high school, but couldn't for obvious reasons (as in, I would not be permitted to, and two of the classes overlapped).

Since I had to choose between band and orchestra, I elected to take orchestra.
It was a better fit for my interests anyway. I didn't care so much about marching, just the music.
