Heather - What about the Drunken Murphys?

I'm a GBS fan too. Saw them at Town Hall in NYC a year and a half ago. While some songs are much mellower, the upbeat ones are great. Though I find myself humming "Concerning Charlie Horse" today.

I'm 40 years old. I think I've been listening to classical music since I was in my teens.

It's to the point where I find most of the classics kind of boring. So, I wind up listening to some of the more out-there kind of stuff occasionally, or really early music.

I used to love Bach, but now I get bored with his music. Mozart... meh.
Hayden... hooey.

I still like DesPres, but I'm even getting kind of tired of him and Gesualdo.

If you like early classical music, and you're getting tired of Gesualdo, you really have a problem.

Regardless, no matter how much I love those Irish bands, I think I
would like them so much better if I drank beer! I'm sure I'm missing

Heather - How about Irish single malt whiskey???

or rum.

That old black rum's got ahold of me....

Irish beer isn't beer!

There is Irish Lager (a type of drink from Germany I think).

There is Irish Cider (A drink from southern England).

There is Irish Stout (Not sure where that originates from but the Irish are very good at it, Guiness and Murphy's).

And then there is Pochin (spelling) a truly Irish drink made from Potatoes. Definately not a beer and often BAD for you but a true Irish drink non the less.

I meant beer in general.....but I do understand there is quite a variety and that the quality has an even bigger range.

That said, I think it's just most alcohol in general that doesn't appeal to me.  It's just not a taste I've developed.  It's not just beer, and I'm using beer in a general term to include Lagers, Ales, and all those appropriate names.  I also don't appreciate wine.  I just can't get into the taste.  I don't appreciate most hard liquers unless they are "disguised".

I don't know which beers are German, but Spell has introduced me to Lambic Ales I think they are???  Again, though they weren't bad, I just didn't appreciate the flavor.  I don't even like wine coolers....I guess I'm one of those wimps that has to drink something fruity.

Subject: Something Fruity

Last time I was at R-place I ordered something >strong and fruity<  After pointing to his buddy, the bartender served up a drink I definately would not have wanted to drive after drinking.

The only club I've ever really liked was the one I used on the baby seals back in the 70s.

I found this interesting:

Gene Simmon's auto-biography, if rather brief.

Some highlights:

He has never been married, and it seems that he never intends to marry.  He ought to teach my father how that works.

He helped start Van Halen.

You can find a postage stamp with his face on it.

He was born in Israel; his mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany.

He taught 6th grade in Spanish Harlem.
