Flynn - This is NOT the first time a company (in this case GMC) has paid big bucks to a film maker to put their name and/or logo into a movie. It's become pretty common, just not always so blatantly obvious.

Oh, and have you seen the new GMC commercials that ALSO use the Transformers ??

Yup. I wasn't jhappy about that either, but figured the film would tone it down a wee bit.

Product placements have become so in-your-face that it's become a major distraction.

Peter Pulse's message was brought to you by Coca Cola. Drink Coca Cola, for life.

The Harry Potter movie was very well done, of course they had to leave a lot out, but they did put a lot in and the attention to detail was very impressive. As I left the theater I overheard some girl saying it was a boring movie with too much dragging on and on and leading up and very little climax to the movie. She probably didn't read the books, as it's story number 5 out of 7 it necessarily had to be a "connecting" story line with a lot put in to move the plot from the beginning to the end. The book also dragged on a bit for that reason, but for the purpose of taking the book and making into an entertaining movie, it was very well done.

Ginger and I LOVED it, but it sure was darker, as people had warned. Well worth the time and money to see it. I will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out.

Just re-saw Equilibrium tonight.

I'd forgotten how much of a blast it is, and how much I enjoyed it.

 http://imdb.com/title/tt0238380/

If you like a bit of sci-fi tossed in with action, go and watch this one. I gotta say, I enjoy it more than the original Matrix (and way more than the other two). Gun-kata rocks!

Equilibrium is more fun than shooting a trunk full of puppies.

As much fun as shooting a hall full of leather-wearing jackbooted ultra-police.

Does anyone know how to convert DivX to regular DVD?

Toast wil do that iirc... I know it'll do .mov/.mpg/.mp4 -> VideoCD...
don't see why it wouldn't take .avi and convert to a video_ts...

You can try VLC for that too.

VLC's transcoding abilities have yet to impress me. Maybe i'm doing it wrong,
but every time I try it it ends up taking forever and never gives me good
results.

So who here saw the Simpsons: m0vie?

I thought it was great.  I'll probably see it again.  It's like a good episode, but longer.  Actualy it reminds me of a few episodes.  I don't want to give anything away though.....

here is the intelligence of Matt and the rest.  Unlike other movies that have taken from tv shows, what they did here is keep everything that ever fan liked about the simpsons and make a movie.  They didn't change anything or make it more "Hollywood".

Anyone yet seen 'Hot Fuzz' ? It's from the guys who did 'Shaun of The Dead', and I've not seen it yet, so just wondering....  the reviews all look pretty good, and I loved SOTD, so I'll probably rent it.

I saw it - if you liked Shaun of the Dead, you'll like Hot Fuzz: same writers, same principal cast (both of which include Nick Pegg). Very british, very gory (although comic in nature and telegraphed well in advance), and you get to see something really icky happy to Timothy Dalton.

Cool - think I'll pick that one up this weekend then.

Timothy Dalton - he really hasn't done too much since Bond, eh?  I did enjoy him in 'The Living Daylights'.
