Hey, as long as I get my start menu, taskbar, and actual desktop back, MS can snort whatever coke they want.

But they spent all that money telling us how nice the new interface is.

IGs gonna like this:

(thread started about pronouncing tec-talk)

or win*COUGH*dows a*COUGH*cht. I have to correct your analysis; on the big computer w8 is not as anoying as one could think (its anoying, ok, I feared worse); but on the mobile it REALY FUCKING SUCKS because of the F*ing thing reboots reasonless now and then. Whilst a phone call i.e... or at nite so you first have to oversleep, and once you enter the sim-pin it F*N rings the alarm clock.

It ain't enough. Reportedly the "start button" that they are bringing back, merely accesses the tiled Start Screen.

Open hand, extend finger...

You didn't think they'd just throw away all those billions spent on improving the user's experience, did you?

Bring that coke bag back. Clearly, MS isn't done with it yet.

They probably think they can spend a few more billion to "re-educate" users to "free themselves of the shackles of the start menu"

What is worse, Ubuntu's unity/gnome 3 interface or Microsoft's interface?

What is worse, Ubuntu's unity/gnome 3 interface or Microsoft's interface?

Probably both, but you can repalce the Unity bit by choosing a different default window manager (by installing Slackware of course)...

Unity is a non starter. Windows Metro is also a non starter.

And evidently the folks aboard the International Space Station agree with me:

They dumped their Windoze installations and have made Debian Linux/Linux the operating system of choice aboard the station. "We migrated key functions from Windows to Linux because we needed an operating system that was stable and reliable - one that would give us in-house control."

Viva las penguinistas !!

Yeesh. Domain policies are teh sux0r. This one seems to be set in such a way that your account is automatically locked out if you even think of any word or phrase that is not your correct password.

So, you create a denial of service attack by guessing people's login names, and purposefully getting the passwords wrong.

And here's our Microsoft-are-scumbags story of the day:

Microsoft wrote its own YouTube app for Windoze Fone 8. It conveniently strips Google's ads away, and also allows downloading of any video, both violations of YouTube's terms of service.

This would be a threat to Google's ad revenue, if anyone actually owned a Windoze Fone.

So it's okay to strip all advertisements from Bing's searches to focus on just the searches you want, at least as far as Microsoft is concerned.

(although, honestly, they seem to only advertise facebook on Bing... which kind of figures, honestly)

Stoopid craptastic directory and its craptastic group policy settings. I've got Wind0ze running in a VM. I don't need a screen saver in the VM. There's a screen saver on the computer running the VM. But the stoopid group policy insists on not only blanking but *locking* my screen after a couple minutes of idle.

I ended up downloading a program called "screen slayer" that wakes up whenever the screen saver timeout is 80% expired, and then moves the mouse pointer by zero pixels.

First the Tacoma Narrows bridge, now four lanes of I-5 collapse into the Skagit River. The lesson here is that you cannot trust Washington state engineering.
If you use Microsoft products you will eventually die. You have been warned.
