Actually Peter what I was going to try it on was an amplifier. Maybe it

will help me track down the problem.

Well, if it won't go on at all anymore, then it may be too late for the freeze method to work. But it could be something like an electrolytic capacitor gone bad.

I suppose that by now many of you have seen the images and heard the stories of Microsoft's sweatshops in China, but for those of you who haven't ...

or ... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1266643/Microsofts-Chinese-workforce-tired-stay-awake.html

15-hour shifts, six and seven day work weeks, workers paid pennies per hour, living in packed and filthy dormitories ...

If your mouse says "Microsoft" on it, you're touching EVIL !!

What mouse do you use? Logitech isn't less evil.

According to the article, the following companies also use the same standards:

Hewlett-Packard, Samsung, Foxconn, Acer, Logitech and Asus

My mouse says "WONKA" on it, indicating that it was manufactured by well-compensated Oompa Loompas.

I dunno. I just got a 64gig flash stick for $20. I just can't find it in my heart to complain.
Life isn't fair. We should all be thankful we're on the less shitty side.

Well, when you buy a lot of products, particularly consumer electronics, it's difficult to find things that *weren't* manufacturerd in those kind of conditions.

I'm singling out Microsoft because it's particularly heinous when *they* do it. :)

eh, i think it's grossly misunderstood.
We have a contract mfgr there. Onsite dorms, cafeterias, yeah...
15-hour work days? Yeah, but the're done in shifts... workers go home
on weekends too.

I may be going there in a few months to get their systems online again.

I've heard fleeb mention this before, and I've known he's right, but I'm living this right now and it's killing me.

Hey, that's a resource-intensive operation you're attempting. :)

[#] Sat Apr 24 2010 18:46:44 EDT from Ford II @ Uncensored

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

actually it is to some degree.
from the prompt, your files just get deleted, from explorer, it's got to move it in to the recycle bin which is also a tiny operation, but it's got size limits and it has to shuffle things around in the recycle bin and I think some the recyclebin metadata is in the registry. I think.
So it's not trivia, but yeah, there's no way on earth it should take MINUTES to delete a file or two.

Here's a Windoze shortcut that will help you.

(with file selected) SHIFT+DEL  forces delete without placing in recycle bin or recycle registry. (but only use it if you're sure you dont need the files anymore)

Apple wants to be the monopolist of the post-PC era. It won't work. Personal computing is soooooo 20th-century. I personally don't think there will be a monopolist in the post-PC era. Apple and Google will both be huge but it's already too late in the game for one player to dominate the way Microsoft did in the PC era and IBM did in the mainframe era. Good riddance to all of them.
