That's http://tinyurl.com/blnh2z for the rest of us ... although there's not much more to the announcement than what's in the URL. :)

I believe Final Cut is a widely used application for that space.

This is pretty bold.

Wow, check out this little anecdote.

http://linuxlock.blogspot.com/2009/03/tempers-flare-as-recession-creeps-into.html

Ken Starks (aka Helios), who operates a charity that donates computers loaded with Linux and other open source software to people and organizations who are in need of computers, is confronted (and to a minor extent, physically assaulted) by "geek squad" types who are angry because Linux's reliability eliminates the customer's need to call for repairs every six months.

Incredible!

I'm pretty sure to be a member of the "geek squad" all you need is A+ cert. I have the A+ cert and let me tell you - a retarded chimp could get A+.

I take that back, a retarded chimp could teach A+ to the geek squad.

Don't take any guff from those fools. I've heard many horror stories about the "geek squad" screwing people over. Taking RAM chips OUT of laptops, charging people for USB drives to save data to and then not saving the data, making people buy a bunch of software and "services" they don't need. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here.

No.

To be a member of the geek squad, you have to be a salesman.

Technical skill is not actually required, and in fact, they have shown that they prefer people who act more like a salesperson than people with technical prowess.

Perhaps it's time for a *real* Geek Squad ... staffed by condescending technorati who just take the computers away from people who don't deserve them. :)

"I'm tired of dealing with Windows malware, patch Tuesday, and the never-ending deterioration of the OS as it clogs up like a drain in a greasy-spoon restaurant. I can't take it anymore."

"I seriously like the Ubuntu 8.10 implementation and will now install it permanently on my latest machines. It's a winner."

"[Ubuntu is] so good that I'm a little annoyed with myself for not getting to it sooner."

"You should also note that almost all of the newest hardware coming out has Linux support. The critical mass has been reached. Go download Ubuntu 8.10 and see for yourself what the fuss is about. You won't regret it."

Ok, we hear stuff like this all the time. So what's special about this time?

The above remarks were made this week in an article by JOHN C. DVORAK. Yes, the notoriously Linux-hostile clickbait troll has finally discovered that Windows sucks and Linux is better.

I like and use ubuntu. I also still use XP Pro, which I like a lot too - granted it's mostly because it's very mature now.

I despise Vista. My wife has it and hates it (she's rather computer illiterate) and rathers XP. I was going to install Ubuntu, in fact, I did install ubuntu, but it wouldn't run skype well and the project was scrapped. She might make me roll her back to XP.

Ubuntu is a good OS, but the applications carry the OS. Really an OS should be transparent anyway; it's the application that make the computer - not the OS. Ubuntu won't run Adobe CS3 or CS4, so it's not good for my personal business and it doesn't have a good software to integrate with exchange server so I can't use it at work. I can't even build a case for us to switch to linux at work because we don't have a real outlook substitute. I wish we did. Open office is 'doable', but even that could uses some polishing.

My point is, that it's the applications, not the OS. It the same reason people choose Wii over Xbox - the games.

Agreed. Ubuntu 8.10 is a windows killer...or at least a windows kicker.  I use it on one of my boxes...but on the whole I prefer Fedora 10 more.  Plus KDE kicks Gnome's butt.  Dual monitor support is still not up to par though.

I really like Ubuntu, but I've grown tired of KDE. Once I discovered Xfce, though, I knew I had found a new love. Lean and mean!

I'm in the Vista zone again.

World's most Zen operating system.
