Actually, I have it on good faith that God is more into antiphonal music than opera.

It figures. You need a computer manufactured during this century for ACPI to be available.

Ford keeps a leather whip on hand to keep all those old machines in line when they try to get unruly.

That said, he's usually really nice to them.  I mean, he never runs Windows on those poor old things, which has to make them feel better about themselves.

Type "dmesg" and search the output for a message that reads something like: "ACPI: BIOS age (1999) fails cutoff (2000), acpi=force is required to enable ACPI"

[ 16.310160] ACPI: Interpreter disabled.

Well, that was easy. :-)

I'd make a terrible sysadmin. I know all that stuff, and I never remember it when I need to.

Firefox has a special mode that detects when Ford is using it, and if so, it remaps free() to a stub function.

Although, fairly soon, version 3.0 of Firefox should be released, at which point they'll detect it's Ford, and stub 'free()' with 'shutdown()'.

Well, so far, I think the new Firefox looks a little better, and makes better use of the GUI space.  Feels a little more compact.

Wow, that's outrageously stupid.

In any case, what Microsoft is doing essentially amounts to dumping, and it's illegal. But that never stopped them before.

This is Bill Gates' last week of work at Microsoft.

(Linked article full of quotes from the biggest MS shill of all time: Rob Enderle)

Mr. Gates will now be spending all of his time at his "Let's Try To Build My Legacy As Something Other Than A Robber Baron" foundation.

I hope he gets hit by a bus on the way there.

So, for the first time, ever, I'm using Microsoft's technical support line.

I can't get this damned WDS/PXE thing to work at all, no matter what I try.  TFTP can't seem to find whatever file WDS is telling the machine to get.

The lady on the other end is, supposedly, a technical writer.  She honestly told me that she probably wouldn't be able to help me with my specific problem, but she'd try to route me to where I need to go.

I have to admit, though, I liked her spunk.  She wasn't some wiped-out drone with a sheet of paper dictating what she should do.  She also didn't sugar-coat anything with some sappy corporate-speak nonsense.  Down to the point, with a dash of humor to keep the call from being too boring, but not so much humor that you can't get anything done.

Before she put me on hold (for which she apologized), she said I should avoid dancing to the music too much, as I'll be too exhausted by the time they get back to me.  Which, of course, is amusing since this music is the usual corporate crap music that you always get when put on hold.
