Actually, Woz is the Chief Scientist at ioFusion here in Salt Lake. They're
the ones that make those ioDrives, the high-performance SSDs that attach
directly to the PCI-E bus.

Wow. It's great to know he's still doing stuff with storage. I remember he pretty well made the Apple II disk drives and interface.

Seems like since recovering from the plane crash he has not really been too interested in being a computer bigwig anymore but would rather get his hands into fun projects. Actually when you look at him and look at Jobs you have to wonder who made the better choice. Yea Jobs is tremendously wealthy and yea he accomplished some important things (whether you like Apple or not, you can't deny that the existence and accomplishments of NeXT and Apple under Jobs, not to mention Pixar.. have had a positive effect on the industry as a whole. But Woz is probably very comfortably wealthy, and does stuff he loves to do.. and has fun. Who's better off? I would say Woz played it just right.

I would agree -- Woz is the absolute model character for a happy and cheerful person.

Yup. Who needs all that rockstar stuff as long as you've got the moneyses?

Sounds like a good plan. I'd say he did just fine.

actually I'd say that us geeks who appreciate technical prowess think woz did right (and is a cooler guy anyway) and all the business people think jobs is the greater success (excess?) because that's where their values lie.

Nah, I respect them both. I don't see Jobs as strictly a business success, I think he brought a lot to the design of the products and the quality.

Yes which is why the next time jobs gets seriously sick, you best sell all your apple stock.

Perhaps, but I suspect most people know quite a bit less than they think they do about the stock market anyway.

I know nothing about the stock market but I know a lot about people. And they're irrational espeically when it comes to money.
People listen to the radio and the TV and the talking heads make wild accusations about why a stock or sector went up or down.
And when a stock goes down because the company didn't exceed their earnings target by enough percentage points well... you can't really make any kind of rational gamble.

News flash!! Details of Apple's new phone have been released and I STILL DON'T CARE!!!

They make decent stuff but I really don't think it's all *that* special.

[#] Tue Apr 27 2010 20:39:18 EDT from Ford II @ Uncensored

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

apparently it's specialness derives from the fact that they have a higher bit-of-electronics density than any other manufacturer.

Apple is losing its edge and taking a more conservative tack. Or if I want to be more blunt, a more defensive strategy. But I don't think they've jumped the shark yet. Their hardware is still way above average, the overall reliability/useability (if you do it THEIR WAY and do not fuck around) is also way above average.
After looking at numerous phones and laptops/netbooks in the past year I cannot really fault Apple too much.

How's this for a kick in the head.
My mac developer license expired, okay, that's fair, $100 a year and I didn't re-up.
But as a result, they took my app off the istore. So in order to keep selling the app you already went through hell to submit, you have to keep paying the piper.
Gets better. Okay, so I didn't pay them, so they took my app down, there's no way I can possibly make any more money from them, so I would expect the balance of my earnings to be deposited in my bank account. Nopers. They seem to be keeping that too.
And how much you wanna bet they're going to make it real hard for me to get my money.

I would imagine you're not bringing in more than $100 a year in app sales to make up for that cost, either.
