Hey, what do you guys know about the 0sx8osx86 project?
Does it work? Viable? Something non geeks can actually make use of?

If you're still thinking of doing this -- I have OSX 10.4.8 running on an AMD Sempron 3200 system w/1.5GB RAM.  pretty stable  :)

Apparently Blu-Ray uses java for its interactive stuff, DVD-HD uses some probably evil Microsoft thing called iHD. This creates a connundrum for people who dislike both Sony and Microsoft. It also explains why Toshiba and Sony could never get together on things though they tried. Personally I still think Toshiba should have released their technology into the public domain rather than abandoning it. But obviously the Microsoft technology would have to be eliminated for that to work.

He's absolutely correct. Most people *don't* understand the value of Vista.

It's easily the most relaxing operating system, ever.

You can't actually do much with it, at least not in a timely fashion, so you're forced to take it easy. I think this is a positive thing.

*sips some more Kool Aid*

As far as a netbook.. the problem for Apple is that they can't produce a machine that doesn't match the standards for the rest of their line, whereas other companies can crank out a cheap plastic thing based on a reference design and get away with it. Also other companies can run linux or marginally run windows.. and that is fine.. but an Apple machine has to run their operating system and run it well. Either OSX itself or some variant (like the iPhone).
So they are between a rock and a hard place. An 8-10 inch notebook built to their usual standards, able to run OSX decently (or alternately, requiring a retooling of OSX).. could not match the price of the other netbooks. And it would also destroy the market for the Air. So I think Apple would rather other people sell these cheap netbooks and then later on when they are ready they'll come out with something cooler than those and people will be ready to pay the price for it.

... all of which has worked well for them in the past.
I'll never understand it, but it obviously works.

As for jobs, I like the way he says "we don't want to burden our customers with goofy licenseing"

I mean, he's right, but let's take a LITTLE responsibility here, you're apple, you can try and stick it to the bluray licensing people just a little.

Have you ever seriously tried the Vista experience?

First, yeah, it's most aggravating. But then you have to reach into your inner zen, to see that the operating system is trying to slow you down, so you can enjoy some of the other things in life that pass you by.

I mean, while working with Vista, I learned to view the clutter on my desk as a kind of artwork. I watched the ants outside attack and dissassemble a lame cricket. I've seen spiders build webs.

Without Vista, I might have missed these small wonders that happen right before our eyes, because I would have been so focused on my work.

Bwhahahahaha - you know, I never thought of it like that. And yes, I have Vista, unfortunately.

I'll have to remember that next time it freezes or crashes - watch the ants, as fleeb says.

Breathe - and slowly squeeze that trigger .

One more vote here for the VISTA shirt..  That would be great!  The other side could say something like "My parents went to Redmond and got Vista, and all I got was this shirt! Thank God!"
