Apple finally released their Apple TV this past week..... It's nice to know that the hacker spirit is alive and well. People have already got ssh and VLC running on them, and upgrading hard drives....

Wow! I had turned off "Block Pop-Up Windows" in Safari in case someone
wanted to IM me. Forgot about it, and kept browsing around.
This is what I got:::::

Heh. At least the accompanying viruses, trojans, and spyware wouldn't have run on your computer anyway.

You can allow popups for just one site.

The rumor mill is saying that Apple is going to announce the use of Sun's ZFS in their upcoming OSX upgrade. Too cool.

Sure, if you had more than one disk.

ZFS looks really cool. I need to go set one up and try it out.

friend of mine, a real apple fan sent me this:

To which I respond in my usual cynical nature:
problem #1: a keyboard that changes per application, if your keyboard is the same all the time, you don't have to think, your fingers know what to do, if your keyboard changes per app, you have to remember to notice that you're typing in a url and not a note. I don't think this will come up much because really how many different applications are there.
Problem #2: no tactile response. Your fingers get feedback from buttons that depress, I don't see how something worse than the membrane keyboards of the 80s are supposed to be better.
problem #3: that autocorrect thing. Notice how he says "if you want to accept the suggestion, just press space." and what if you DON'T want to accept the suggestion, but in fact wanted to type ouzza. You can't, because it's going to autocorrect for you when you hit space to go to the next word.
They created something different, I'm not entirely sure it's better.

In this one review/article they said the iphone doesn't support SMS. I have a hard tinme beleiving that. But if it's true that's going to kill it.

I'm wondering about a lot of things concerning the iPhone.

I have been kind of hot to get one, but I'm honestly starting to have my doubts.

It seems like an awful lot of money to spend, both on the phone itself, and on the service contract to maintain it, just to have another shiny gadget with only 6-8 gigs of on-board memory for your music.

I'm intrigued with the GUI... I really want to see how they pulled it off, before I reserve judgement on whether or not I think it sucks. While you might not have tactile feedback, you might have enough feedback through sounds and visual clues that you'll perceive something kind of touchy-enough to work, as long as you are looking at the thing (of course, it'll completely suck for those times when you need to do something without looking at the device).

Oh, there's something... it's definately not a device that'll be blind-friendly.
What's it going to do, play a little game for you while you try to find the buttons? "You're getting warmer... warmer... nope, you're dead cold now."
