My experiences with Kensington pointing devices, like mice and trackballs, have been uniformly BAD.

I would much rather buy a logitech mouse or trackball any day than a Kensington.

And if you get a mouse without a cord, you don't have that whole fraying cord problem.

Ditto harry's sentiment about kensington mice. I bought what I thought would be a nice wireless model from them. Range sucked. Scroll wheel skips. Logitech has never failed me.

I'm surprised to hear your experiences, Harry. The Kensington "expert mouse" trackball is still the nicest pointing device I've ever used. If they weren't so expensive I'd buy several of them.

I never saw the charm in wireless keyboards and mice. They always seem to have problems, and really what's the point? I can't remember ever even once being bothered by the wire...

Received the Kensington Pro-Optical mouse earlier today. Actually, I was surprised that AppleStore had it shipped FedEx for only a $5 charge. Now to cart it 160 miles to the north tomorrow and plug it in.
(don't ask, it's really too simple and boring to explain... ;^)

I'm still willing to contribute the old one to Animal's next bon-fire. :^)

Good luck with it. Maybe Kensington has gotten there heads out of their you know where by now. It's been years since I risked money on them. I *KNOW* that I can depend on a Logitech to perform exactly like I expect it to, especially if I tried it at a retail store first, then bought it online to save money. :-)

I bought the wireless mouse because the PC was hooked up to the TV (linux box with mplayer) and I didn't want a mouse cable to the sofa. Other than that, well..

Wheeeeeeeeeee! I like this new mouse. Much more responsive than the Apple original. It's two button with a scroll wheel that toggles between vetical and horizontal scrolling just by *clicking* it. And the rubberized side grips are nice too. It's larger than the Apple mouse but I think I can get used to that.

Hope you all had a good halloween. It was pretty good on this end...

Question:
I recently did a clean install on the G4 and got the machine running up and fine. What I want to do now
is copy the "sys prefs" & "utilities" files over from the *created* "previous System 1" folder,
but I keep getting the "You do not have permisions, Dammit!" error message. Can anybody
walk me through how to copy/move these files via sudo in the terminal? or at least how
to defeat the permissions?
Many Thanks In Advance!!!! :^)

I'd do it the old fashioned way through terminal. You might be able to do it with Pseudo (http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/).

BTW - 10.4.3 released. No word if Apple has addressed the launchd problem which has reared its head again on my system.

Yup, RR is light speed (ahem - "fibre optic" speed) faster than the cable service we have in Mason, altho' it is still not bad at all, just not as fast. Well, that being said, here comes my Mac point...

My mouse finally crapped out on me. Yes, It died. I tried all the usuals and actually found the best deal at the Apple StoreĀ®. I am seriously thinking of sending the broken remains to Animal so he can incenerate them in a glorious explosion. (fucking things)

As far as I can tell it was the lack of insulating rubber condom/sleeve/doohickie where the cable enters said mouse that allowed the wires/cable to fray - thus a shorted out mouse.

Anyways, Apple has made it iincredibly convenient that I cannot order an original replacement mouse through their store. Now I get to order a Pro-Optical mouse from KensingtonĀ® (which has been good in the past) but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. :^)
