64 megs of ram for OpenOffice?? I assume you don't run anything else at the same time? :-)

And I thought OpenOffice was chunky on a PII with 128 megs. I must have something configured incorrectly.

Just a note...after having compiled a new kernel and installing it, I will be rebooting the BBS server at around midnight, tonight.

Any connections to the BBS, at that point, will, of course, be broken.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Well, the reboot is done, but there may be another few, tomorrow, as I update a few user space tools that go along with this particular kernel.

Again, sorry for any inconvenience.

Done, for now.

There are a couple of options missing, though, so I'm recompiling with new options, and will be reinstalling said kernel and rebooting, later.

Georbit: I have no problems running OpenOffice with 64meg of RAM with a shell window open. None whatsoever. That's a full 64meg though, none is shared as Video Ram and I'm also running Black Box as a windows manager.

And you don't notice slowdowns while typing your document? It feels like I'm typing with an elastic band on my laptop, and it's a PII!

Something's gotta be wrong with my setup. :-)

Georbit: No slowdowns once launched, OpenOffice runs perfectly until some abnormal activity occurs like opening another file or such occurs. There is a latency then but even switching between two already open files is crisp.

This is on a '486/133 IBM Thinkpad 770. I love the old tank, heavy and rugged but a beautiful 13.3" screen with brillant color. Only think I don't like is that darned 'J'key mouse.

I didn't know they made 486/133's in the 770 line.. mine's a 770Z with PII and DVD drive.

Thanks for the info.
