I really like Flying Dog beers, especially their "Road Dog" Scottish Porter. Mmmmmmm.

Also, Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball is VERY tasty.

On a very strongly Literature-AND-Beer theme, this weekend my S.O. and I threw a LotR:Extended party. It involved a lot of Tolkien-themed foods (rashers and eggs for breakfast/elevenses, tea and lembas, sauteed mushrooms, and rabbit stew), and to go along with this I made beer labels to match.

Ta da! http://illuminatio.vermilionink.com/daily/images/lotrbeer.jpg

Prancing Pony Porter : Yuengling Black & Tan
Golden Perch Eastfarthing Best Bitter : Fuller's London Pride
Green Dragon Bywater Brown Ale : Newcastle Brown
Rohan Red Ale : Lagunitas Censored Copper Ale

It's so much fun being a dork!

The only Flying Dog beer I've seen here is the pale ale. There used to be a Grant's Scottish Ale. What happened to it?

Try the Old Foghorn (sic) barley wine from Anchor Brewing. Or Old Peculier. Great for cold snowy days when one doesn't have to worry about orcs.

Mmmmm Old Peculier is one of my very favorite beers ever. Will definitely keep a lookout for the Old Foghorn.
And hm yes, today does seem more like one to worry about snow giants.

Just finished off the porter I got the other day. It was Sweetwater Brewing's Exodus Porter. Really good and sweet.

ok, so I just smashed this down on a 30+ hour flight from Sydney, AU -> Accra (Ghana, West Africa).

Overall, I enjoyed it very much! A good style of writing and my interest was maintained throughout. Nothing special with the ending, I thought, but hey.

Next up: Asimov: Nemesis -- pretty cool so far, and I'm wondering where it's going.

dt - I read Pattern Recognition almost a year ago on my Palm Pilot.. Maybe even longer ago that that and loved it. Thought it was up there with Gibson's best. Of course when he's lousy he's really lousy.

Well, I hail from Sydney, Australia (I lived in London for the past 3 years) and I was looking at ways to avoid working again, so I volunteered to work in Africa for the MISTOWA project (www.mistowa.org).

This means I have plenty of time available to read :) I have the entire sandman series with me on my laptop which has been great reading, and there are a few 2nd hand bookstores around with some great english titles for around 2 USD a pop.

I'll be here in Accra, Ghana until may, which feels longer over here than it sounded in sydney. :)
