A few of us recently finished the last two book in Stephen King's Dark Tower
series. Have you read it?

Just started reading "Hollow Man" by Dan Simmons...interesting so far.
I notice he's got a new "space opera" book out called "Ilium" too.

(I like his web site: http://www.dansimmons.com/ ...that thing behind
him is a real metal sculpture of the Shrike from his Hyperion books.)

Wonder how the Hyperion movie plans are going...I almost shudder to think,
since Hollyweird is involved.

Garth Nix writes some pretty good stuff. I can't recall the order of the series, but books including Lirael were pretty good. I was kind of surprised to find them in the children's lit section of the local book store; I hadn't thought of them as children's books, though there wasn't anything to put them specifically in an adult market.

Made me rethink my attitudes on juvenile fiction, actually. They were thoroughly enjoyable books, and I'll probably keep an eye open in that section of the store from now on.

Yes, I was surprised to find (after I read the book) that he's considered
a "children" or "young adult" author. If you look at the Amazon page
you'll see a "review" from some hysterical mother freaking out about the
teen-aged sex in "Shade's Children".

Reminds me of the time I found one of Nick Bantock's Pop-Up books in the childrens section at a bookstore... Solomon Grundy in this case... yes, it's a pop-up book, no it is NOT for children... I bought it, but politely told the clerk that for the future they should make note that Bantock pop-up books are not for children... she seemed like she was going to brush me off until I showed her a few of the pages and images, then she decided to make a note of it for her manager...

I really wouldn't trust any brew made by stone,

or the elmos
