The IGlet is now writing Tiny Toons fanfic. This should be interesting.

And likely much more amusing than much other fanfic out there.  Hope you share it!  :-)

This is a test about books, their original cover art and how the cover art was changed after the book was turned into a movie. Four of them were easy, some harder and I am still stuck at 9/20... *grr*

can't get #5 with the three soldiers, the african fighter, and the cowboy

Jaws and Planet of the Apes were obvious.

There's only one movie that I know of where there's a rabbit main character along with humans...

Thats one of the easier ones, I thought. The movie characters are kind of a 1:1 transition of the cover, at least the guy with the decoration on the helmet (in the background). A little quote as a hint: "I think I was trying to suggest something about the duality of man, sir."

Jaws and Planet of the Apes were obvious.

I thought it was Jaws too, but it didn't work when I wrote it... Maybe a typo, so technically I am at 10/20. Yeah, the apes were more than obvious, was my first hit.

There's only one movie that I know of where there's a rabbit main character along with humans...

Well, there are two I know of, but in one of them, you don't get to see the rabbit.

I am stuck at the guy with the gun, reminds me of Klaus Kinski, but that doesn't make sense.

Hm, I gave up at 10/20. Turns out I know all of the movies I couldn't guess from the covers. The only one's I have never seen are the last three (shame on me), but I know the names. Of the ones I have seen, I would never ever have guessed the one with the doll, the skulls and totally not the one with the green skulls and the grid.

Of course I didn't get the Kinksi one with the "gun", but I guessed the scifi one correctly, but couldn't remember the name and later forgot to think about it. That one and the one with the blurred face are guessable.

If you are still trying, I can give you hints, if you want.

I just dropped by to say HOLY FUCKING SHIT GLEN COOK FINALLY PUBLISHED THE CONCLUSION TO THE DREAD EMPIRE SERIES!

http://www.amazon.com/Path-Coldness-Heart-Dread-Empire/dp/1597803294

Just discovered this and it blows my mind that it's been out for over a month now and I had no clue about it... I've been waiting for this book for 20+ years!

The previous Dread Empire book basically ended with the most painful cliffhanger of all time, then the publisher killed the series before publishing the final book. Cook had already mostly written the thing by then but at some point some asshole stole the manuscript from his house, so for years and years it looked like the series would never get an ending...

Apparently he re-wrote the final book, incorporating some of the old stuff and lots of new stuff, and now it's out! Holy fucking shit!

This is what happens when you have a kid. You lose track of other things. I gotta get that myself.

I'm only about 1/3 of the way through it but so far it's really good! A few big surprises and it sort of ties into all of the old books, not just the last one...

Not a bad idea, there've been a few things that sent me scrambling to look stuff up in the previous books... I'm about halfway through now and it's a lot of fun! Could be the best Dread Empire book of all!

How many books were there in that series?

This new one is the eighth book in the series. There was an original trilogy, a prequel series with two books, and then a sequel series with two books followed by a 20+ year pause and then a third and final book.

There's an omnibus edition of the original trilogy called A Cruel Wind and that'd be the place to start. There's also an omnibus of the prequel series called A Fortress In Shadow and a collection of short stories called An Empire Unaquainted With Defeat (not connected to the novels but set in the same world) so technically I guess that's a ninth Dread Empire book, but it isn't part of the proper series.

Run, Rincewind, Run!

(Anyone else who has read Terry Pratchet's Discworld series might appreciate it, too).
