Then they aren't with me which is the same as not owning them.

Are we going to see Aahz on an episode of "Hoarders?" He'd be the Crazy Book Guy(tm). :P

He already is the crazy book guy. Actually just bought the latest of the Dune Series. Was $3.80 at the grocery store.. It covers the time right after the revolt on Arrakis through the beginning of the eniverse wide Jihad. Just started it but am enjoying it so far.

Is there really any value in the books not written by Herbert himself? I don't dare to read them. Always wanted to read the Butler's Jihad, but never got over the anxiety... Read so many bad reviews

You sort of have to disassociate yourself from the change in authros. If you grew up with the story and just loved the tale, there's nothing wrong with the other books. If you are a purist then nothing is going to make you happy and don't bother.

Remember - from Dune to the next book in the series, thousands of years had passed. So there was lots of time in there for other things to happen. Plus time before as well. It's a great universe to play in. I think the boys did a pretty good job of spinning some tales.

I still haven't forgiven Kevin J. Anderson for what he did to the Star Wars universe.

I kind of grew up with it, through the amiga game. A short time later I actually devoured the books and I still love them. So I don't now if it there really is "grew up with xor purist", I might be both.

What we learned from Hollywood is, that the only thing worse than an unescessary sequel is the remake of classic movie. I fear that it might be an unholy inbreed of both horrors. Still. I am very much interested what happens to the shipload of freaks that starts off into space at the end of part six, and of course who those funny gardeners are. What do you recommend more, part 7 or the prequels? (Reading time is limited atm, unfortunately, so I have to make choices)

I think I read the books before the Amiga ever existed. I enjoyed playing Dune and then Command and Conquer quite a bit. Hmmm.. I think I'd suggest Book 7 first. Classics before off-shoots

As long as people keep buying tickets to the bad remakes, Hollywood will keep making them. Vote with your dollars and go see the truly original films.

(Are there any?)

One of the best points about plinketts review of star wars is that it has been made. It exists and can't be undone.

George Lucas would disagree with plinkett. "I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it" were his exact words.

I dunno, I saw the clip (apparently on one of the many extras dvds) where lucas and producers and company saw the first full run of the film after editing, and they were all stunned.
