That's not a joke. That could actually happen in my company.

found 11 Obama bumper stickers on our employees' cars, and have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off.
Note to self.. it's always a good idea to NEVER put political bumper stickers on a car...  you never know when you might decide to sell the car, and you never know when your boss will use it as a decision maker....

I had this discussion with my boss today. Someone sent in a donation with a bunch of cool stamps all over it. (he owns a philatelic store) But on the back of the envelope has a LARGE round sticker announcing his pride in Confederate heritage- complete with flag.

We had a rousing discussion about it in the hallway.

A lot of people confuse that with some form of racism, when in fact, it's usually just some old fogey getting watery-eyed for the good ol days when life wasn't so fast, there was chivalry and America was 'on top'.

It's really a shame because our octogenarians are a wealth of wisdom if we can look past some of their prejudices. Like the movie Gran Torino; that was supposed to be a comedy, right?

A guy at work is from sri lanka, he recently moved to texas.
He told me today he got pulled over by a cop for doing 55 in a 65.

So I said "they call that racial profiling."

That didn't go over to well.

Actually, that's common in Texas. They call is obstructing traffic. I had a friend who got pulled over for the same.

I know that in South Carolina, you can get pulled over if you drive under 45 miles an hour where it's 55 miles per hour (usually the highways).  So, I guess that's kind of reasonable.

However, in S. Carolina, they have road signs indicating the lower limit.  I doubt they do that in Texas.

One Sunday morning Vasssili burst into the living room

and said:

- "Kalimera, Mama, Baba!" I have some great news for you!
I am getting married to the most beautiful girl in the Khorio.

She lives a block away and her name is Katina

After dinner, Vassili's dad took him aside.

- "Vre Pedimou, I have to talk with you.
Your mother and I have been married 30 years.
She's a wonderful wife but she has never been any good

in bed, so I used to fool around with women a lot.
Katina is actually your half-sister, and I'm afraid you can't

    marry her."

Vassili was heart-broken.

After eight months he eventually started dating girls again.

A year later he came home and very proudly announced,

- "Eleni said yes! We're getting married in June."

Again his father insisted on another private conversation and

broke the sad  news.

- "Vre pedimou, i Eleni is your half-sister too.... I'm awfully

     sorry about this."

Vassili was furious! He finally decided to go to his mother

with the news.
- "Baba has done so much 'ghamisi'. I guess I'm never going to

get married," he complained... "Every time I fall in love,

Baba tells me the girl is my half-sister."

Vassili's mother just shook her head.

- "Don't pay any attention to what that malaka says, Vassilaki

mou, He's not really your father."

*bzzt*

That's a really bad retroadaptation of the song "Johnny Be Fair."

Lyrics:

Oh Johnny be fair
and Johnny be fine
he wants me for to wed.
And I would marry Johnny
but my father up and said.
"I'm sad to tell you daughter
what your mother never knew.
That Johnny to is a son of mine
and so he's kin to you."

Oh Billy be fair
and Billy be fine. . .

Oh Jimmy be fair
and Jimmy be fine. . .

Well you never seen
a girl so sad and sorry as I was.
The boys in town are all my kin and
my father is the cause.
If life should thus continue
I shall die a single miss
so I go to my mother
and complain to her of this.

Oh daughter didn't I
teach you to forgive and to forget.
Your father might have
sowed his oats but
still you needn't fret.
Your father may be
father to all the boys
in town but still....
He's not the one who sired you
so marry who you will.

I've seen Minimum speed limit signs in a few states. Typically they are either 40 or 45 depending on the max posted speed.  And if you are driving below the minimum posted you're suposed to have your hazzards on.  The minimum speed keeps scooters and mopeds (and I think Smart cars) off the highways.  It's a GOOD thing! (tm)

Side note: Most U-Haul trailers have max speeds of 45 posted on them, and if you have an acident w/ their equipment and you were going over 45, the extra insurance won't cover you.

Nyaa - my smart car does highway speeds just fine. I went to Milwaukee and back a couple weeks ago and am going to Sioux Falls, SD next weekend. I went about 70-75 the entire trip.

That little box will sustain 70+?  I know the car will hit 70 (saw the crash test.. impressive.. deadly but impressive - human body wouldn't survive the G's involved, even with the vehicle structure staying fairly intact at that speed)

My biggest fear would be cross winds from trucks.  The Geo Metro would spin like a top if you sneezed on wet pavement....  The wheel base is just too damn small for a vehicle that tall.

Max speed is governed at 90 - so far no more of a crosswind problem than my old Saturn SL1 (also a plastic car).

I was wondering about tipping. It's fairly skinny and just as tall as any other car.
Can you get it to tip or roll just by swerving?
I don't mean you per se, but does the car roll?

I think you'd better rent one (with the insurance, of course) and find out.
:)
