Anyone in the Nashville area on Monday (10/15)?  Seems I may have some unexpected free time during my trip, if anyone's around....

*laughs*  Was wondering how long it would take to invoke IG's Law of
Pizza!!

Actually I'd rather have Pizza Hut than chicago thug style pizza. Pizza Hut is ok as long as you try not to think of it as the same thing as real pizza.

Chicago thugs vs NY thugs.

Discuss.

I saw a new entry a while ago, "Utica Style" I wanted to call and ask what "Utica Style" was but the reviews said the employees were
rude and weird so I didn't call.

@zooer: Are you in the New Hartford/Utica area? I lived there until late Nov, 1980.

Not sure what "Utica Style" pizza would be...I'd have to ask my cousin who still lives there...he might actually know.

I would guess that Utica-style pizza is a style designed to get people to ask "What is Utica-style pizza?" and thus come to Utica to eat said pizza.

Well, since my grandmother no longer lives there, that's not going to be reason enough to get me to go back to Utica. ;-)

From http://slice.seriouseats.com/archives/2008/01/a-list-of-regional-pizza-styles.html

"Utica-style maybe a variation (Utica NY) this is more a variation than its own style maybe but all the toppings are under the cheese. I spent a couple summers in central New York and I have never seen it anywhere else."

I'm guessing it may be a more recent variation, as it's not one I'd been exposed to before I left...but I was just shy of 13 at the time.

And this one describes "Utica Style" as a tomato pie, not a pizza:

I have had tomato pie, and it isn't pizza, it is more of a snack. It is limited to central NY and it is very good but isn't pizza. The
toppings on the bottom pizza I have heard called an "upside down" pizza, and I didn't think it was limited to Utica.

If you look at the website Tomato Pie is above Utica Style so they can't be the same thing.

The "Utica Style" distinction on the tomato pie had something to do with serving it at room temp instead of hot, from what I read.

Freakdog: I sent you an email here at uncensored.

Anyway I always thought A) Tomato Pie was a centeral "Utica" thing. B) Tomato Pie was served at room temp. So I still don't know the
difference.

I remember seeing it on school lunches but I always avoided it. I didn't try it until I was in my 30s and it is really good. It was
always served at room temp and no one outside of the area knew what the hell I was talking about.

Definitely not just Utica. Trenton, NJ, is widely known for Tomato Pie, as well as some other areas. Funny thing is that tomato pie wasn't something I had when I lived there. Odd.

Interestingly, sounds like I may be out in San Fran in early January.  Desperately trying to avoid one of those hellish redeyes, myself.

Hmm...I should call Mo and see if she needs any mayo.....
