You could blow away the user database by deleting data/cdb.01 while the citserver is not running. Also delete any database logs sitting around.

This is chainsaw surgery, though, and is not officially supported.

Alternatively you could keep cdb.01 and blow everything else away and still keep the user db?

Perhaps, but again, no guarantees.

Of course no guarantees. Just wanted clarification that cdb.01 was any/all userinfo and all the rest were messages/rooms/etc. :)

0 and 4 comprise the message base, 1 is the user table, 2 is the room table, 3 is the floor table, 5 is "visits" (relationships between users and rooms such as access controls, new/old messages, etc.), 6 is a cache of Internet to Citadel address mappings, and 7 is a cache of recent message ID's for the loopzapper to check against.

You can do interesting (but very unsupported) things by selectively zapping tables.  For example, if you kill cdb.05, all your rooms, messages, and users will exist, but nobody (except Aides) will have access to private rooms, all messages will be new in all rooms, any zapped rooms will return, etc.

If you kill cdb.04, all rooms will be empty, but the messages will still exist on disk, unreferenced, taking up disk space.  (There's a server command you can issue to "fsck" the message base, but it's not something you really want to be doing.)

Ah cool. Is that in the docs someplace (the db relationships I mean)?

Nope. That would give the illusion that I'd be willing to talk to anyone who screwed up their system by randomly deleting files. As far as I'm concerned, it's a black box right up until you get to "vi database_sleepycat.c"

Ah. Gotcha. Ok I can understand that.

Would saving cdb.02 and .03 coping them back into a frech build save the rooms and floors? Messages don't mean much to me right now.

It might, but again, I cannot guarantee that your data store won't be corrupted.

Subject: What's in a name

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Years ago there was a room for writers, and I can NOT remember the name of the room.  It sure makes it touch to request what one can not remember. :)

I'm almost ready to start adding another round of rooms over here, so who has a system with a lot of netted rooms (besides Freakdog) that wouldn't mind sharing.

I think Freaky's got a good 90-95% of 'em.

And, any that I don't have, I'd be happy to pull, too.

Since Freakdog already has the connections to the rest of the boards, I'll be more then happy to take on any more rooms that he can get his hands on.  In perticular, I would like the "Of the Weird" room.

Of the Weird) has been recreated here at DPII (it was removed as nobody else, at the time, indicated that they still wanted it, and your system, from which the room was initially fed and passed on, was dead).

If anyone else would like to carry it, let me know.

Freakdog,
I've gone ahead and set up the room on my side.  I know that IG and Ian have the room on their systems, but now sure who's netting with who...
  I will re-subscribe to the e-mail feed.

I think I had it as a leftover from when I was the Cit-86 hub. If it is still here I would be amazed that the autopurger didn't get it.

Not that I was aware...Of the Weird was something that I'd added, at Campy's request, on my UX...I think Haven was a UX system by then, too.
