Yeah, the loopzapper on mycastlewall is totally b0rked. Every day I delete a batch of one and two month old messages that got sent again.

I'm not seeing any looped messages here, so what's happening is beyond me.  I've been updateing the software every time there's been an update, I'm guessing that along the way the db has gone south.  Next software update that's release I'm blowing everything away, using easy install and starting over. Thus one of the reasons I'm dropping a bunch of networked rooms.

Are you changing the nodename, too, or leaving that be?

I'll change the nodename.  The root servers seem to have updated, DNS from my office is resolving.  I'll go ahead and change the nodename  this evening after dinner so you'll have this message to give you a heads-up. :)

The room used to be called "I want my DSL"...Now it's called "I want
my broadband everything"

There's your problem -- it's now called "I Want Broadband Everything" (no "my" in the name)

room configuration editing is busted in 7.60 webcit.. looks like i need to drop to command prompt to edit this one....

Yes, a few arrive every day.

So basically there is most likely something completely foobared (sorry IG) w/ my system.  How possible is it to dump the message base except for e-mails, and users, and start a "new" session?  Are the db maintanance tools up to the task of fighting the good fight?

You can run multiple Citadels on the same box with Easy Install ... you just have to twiddle the startup scripts a bit. No big deal.

LDAP is supported with Easy Install, as long as your openldap development libraries are already online.

While setting up LDAP properly might be a challange, I'm suspecting my biggest hurdels will be seting up and testing Bynari and funambol.  Has anyone put together comprehensive documentaion to together for these?

Seems to work for me...

I'll update to todays current version at lunch time and see if the problem persists.  If it does, I'll submit a bug report.

Is it possibly something related to the node-names, and not loop-zapper?

I seem to recall something vaguely similar to this with my own system.  It was the reason why my own system couldn't really join the citaNet for a long time.

That issue had something to do with a node name comparison not being case insensitive in a place where it should have been. The resulting effect was that every message echoed back to its source. Split horizon didn't work.
In this case we're seeing old messages being sent again much later, presumably after they expire from the use table (at which point it assumes that any loops have already been zapped).

You could try dumping the database in XML format (MIGR export) and then loading it back in clean, or you could view the dump and try to edit it by hand. I'm not sure the latter would work too well because the various tables are joined in a lot of different ways.

Going to give this a shot and see what happens. Thanks!

Hmm, didn't go so well.  Exported 3.5G of information.  Tried ./sendcommand MIGR import < ../filelocation and within a few seconds I got a failed message. (thought I copied the error it to clipboard, but didn't)

Ok, MIGR needs to be solid so if there's a bug in it we'll fix it ... but I do need that error message (and a stack trace if the server crashed).

It failed rather quickly, so testing should not be much of a problem.  I'll keep an eye on the pids to see if citadel is pukeing, and get a trace if it does.  Would you have any interest in messing w/ the xml file that was created?   Mind you it is 3.5G so it will take a few min over the wire.

For the exported data, all I care about is whether it finished. If the file ends with "</citadel_migrate_data>" then it's complete, and we only need to look at the import side.

(For now.)

And of dump looks good:

citadel:/usr/local/citadel.24aug09 # tail dump.xml

I will attempt an import again around noon today.

It would be nice to start citadel server in a mantanance mode to stop it from listening to all ports/calls and only run local commands from sendcommand.   Having the network spool requests, or IMAP continue to allow logins kind of foils the purpose of a complete db lock/dump/debug.  Or have I missed something in TFM's?

Subject: MIGR import attempt.

steps: stopped citadel, moved the citadel directory to a new name, went into the same citadel-7.61 directory that I used to build my current citadel server.  Ran make install, cd'ed to new citadel directory, ran setup, only adding sysop/password. followed by:

./sendcommand MIGR import <../citadel.24aug09/dump.xml
sendcommand: started (pid=2051) running in citadel
Attaching to server...
citadel Citadel server ready.
Authenticated as an internal program.
MIGR import
400 sock it to me

(this laster about 3 sec.)

select failed: 4citadel:/usr/local/citadel #

The PID's never changed for citserver, /var/log/mail gave no indication of error

 1994 ?        Ss     0:00 /usr/local/citadel//citserver -d -h/usr/local/citadel/ -x7 -lmail
 1995 ?        Sl     0:00 /usr/local/citadel//citserver -d -h/usr/local/citadel/ -x7 -lmail
