Yeah...I noted the issue in the Citadel support room.

We're back up, now.

Haven went offline last week when I was out of town due to a fiber cut, and a Smartjack getting its programming scrambled.   That was fun.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Once upon a time, many long times ago, in a citadel network much like this one.. there was a room whos topic revolved around Abuse, and in perticular abuse of women and support for them.  Now, this may have been a MN Citadel-86 room and not on the global network.

Anyways,  If such a room still exists, can we manage to get it to me via Dopound2?

I'm not aware of such a room, but if it exists, I would not be averse to carrying it for you.

I have a couple of guests w/ security related questions, and it got me thinking,  As V-Cards are sent system to system, what information will the V-Card trasnfer to antoher board?  What information could be potentially seen by a regular user? (beside their own card)  What are the possibilities that a rogue board gets setup for the soul purpose of gatehring vcard data for the purpose of identity theft?  I was going to require that my guests completely fill out the registration before they would be validated, but now I'm starting to waver... I need to know that we have enough security that a guests personal Identifiable Information is safe.

Quite simply, if you don't trust the other site operators on the network to keep the data safe, then you shouldn't participate in the Global Address Book.

I have no fears of the people that I know, What I wounder about is the possibility of one of the thousands of Ubunto script-kiddies setting up a box, and joining into the network.  Can we share a limited v-card?

For what it's worth, I doubt many of the people using mycastlewall are going to be sending direct messages to people on other citadel systems, so my sharing of v-cards is of limited value.

Hang on, what... erm I mean.

Nothing is sent out of a Citadel server unless the room is specifically shared out to another server.

Does this mean there is a group of people sharing their GAB?

I didn't know that.

Well, yeah...that's the idea behind a "Global" address book. ;-)

Seriously, though, the feature is really useful in a groupware setting, where you might have multiple servers, serving up different offices.  Share the GAB room, and everyone can easily email anyone in the enterprise.

Giving credence to the theory that spammers must die...one actually did.

Too bad he had to take potentially productive members of society with him.

I just wrote an e-mail to a coworker yesterday saying I'd love to bag that guy. Looks like he bagged himself.

But it's a terrible shame what he did to the rest of his family in the process.

What a complete asshole.

Around 2:15AM, Saturday, August 16, the Netopia Cayman 3546-002 router that services Dog Pound BBS II died.

It's been replaced...we're back up and running.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If anyone has a way to contact idget (sysop of this board) other than via this board (idget hasn't even logged in since February of 2007), please find out if anyone's even interested in keeping this place going.
