If not, everything needs to be double checked. Ensure that there is a 20 amp breaker, and that 12 gauge wire is used, before replacing a NEMA 5-15 outlet with a NEMA 5-20 outlet.

Personally I would have gone for a 30 amp circuit with a twist lock outlet going to a really big UPS. But as I said earlier, the novelty of having a computer room at home has worn off for me.

It seems odd that any house built today wouldn't have each room on its
own circuit, considering the central role that technology now plays in
our culture and lifestyle.

Not necessarily. Most of the time, they don't wire all the rooms together, but you'll usually get 2 rooms on the same circuit.

At the end of the electrical work (just running wires through the new joist system, so that we can drywall the garage, again), they found one wire that they'd cut, which they were going to put back together when they came back, next week.

Turned out that it was the wire to my dining room and foyer.

Seems that from the breaker box, it goes up to the photosensor for my outside lights.

From there, it goes to the box for one of my exterior outlets.

From there, it goes back into my house, to power those two light fixtures.

Who the hell designed that messed up piece of crap circuit?

If I ever find myself in a position where I'm either building a house or (more likely) building an addition to a house, I'm sure I'll be micromanaging the electrical work. Or perhaps if I find the right people I could do all the work myself and then have the electrician just do the final connects so it meets code. I live in an old house that's been rewired several times and the circuits are just plain wonky.

Ok I still don't get ya. What you asked for was 20 amps coming into the room not shared with any other room. What you got instead was 20 amps coming into the room not shared, plus 20 amps shared with a bedroom and a hallway. You have MORE power than you asked for. Maybe it's a little inconvenient that you have to run some power strips or extension cords to bring that dedicated circuit to other parts of the room.. but you have plenty of power.

The room has a total of 5 outlets in it.   One of those is part of that 20 AMP circut.  The other 4 are tied to the hallway and other room.   So if the breaker pops on the shared outlets it takes down 4 out of 5 of the outlets.   This includes the lights, my laptop, my desktop, etc.   The only things on the dedicated circut is my inhouse server, and the firewall.  I had wanted all the electrical jacks on the one circut instead of 4 on one circut and 1 on the dedicated circut.  I guess I could just get a rack and UPS and plug it all into that instead.

It appears that, suddenly, the LT RSS feed started working again.

I've removed uncnsrd from the share list for that room.

Looks like, somehow, my netconfigs might have gotten snarfed back around the 9th.

If there are any feeds that start coming back that we had killed, between then and now, please let me know.

Yesterday, the firewall at the front end of the network supporting Dog Pound II suffered from a hard disk failure.

We were offline for a couple of hours, while I located and installed a new hard drive, reinstalled IPCop, and rebuilt m firewall rules.

Hopefully, all access has been restored and all is now good.

BTW...DP2 will be on autopilot for the next several days, while I'm taking the holiday off with my family.

I'll have sporadic net access, so if we're not responding, we'll get it cleared up.

Freakdog,

Any chance you can look at the rooms we were sharing?

Oh, and it's nice to see that the network nodes still don't hold up on the new version.  Glad I didn't waste my time updateing.

Freakdog,

Heretic Flambe has suddenly started getting all your shared rooms. When I get a moment, I'll put together a list of the rooms it should be pared to.

Thanks.
