At work we've been spending a lot of the multi hours calls we're on about CRM acronyms:
Chad Real Mad (chad gets a lot of crm shit)
Customers Register Manually.
oh there were a ton more that I can't remembe.r.

customer records mangled.

Ford, that hits a little too close to home here.

which is why it's so funny.
the irony at our place is that our crm system is so slow it can't really make that much of a mess.
I'd bet that a team of 10-20 temps would process custoemr changes faster than our crm system does.

And the billing process?

Freakdog, you're talking about SBC. Their billing system is almost 100 years old. <GRIN>

Actually, I was talking about the internet billing system, which is currently being run by the Prodigy folks. <G>

For IG and the conspiracy theorists:
"I have also been retained by the Department of Justice on its investigation of the INSLAW matter. In 1992 (and later in 1995) my task in that engagement was to investigate alleged copyright theft and subsequent cover-up by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Agency, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the United States Customs Service, and the Defense Intelligence Agency."

For the rest of us:
"I have been retained by counsel for IBM in this lawsuit and am being compensated at a rate of $550 per hour."

IBM was guilty of many sins but they've pretty much done their pennance.

I wonder what Microsoft would have to do to get you to say that..... :)

Pretty much the same thing. They'd have to deprecate Windows and put Linux in the foreground, and support open source and open standards. Then they'd have to spend a few years backing their words with actions. Part of that would have to involve perpetual, royalty-free, sublicensable licenses of any patents they have on relevant technology.

It didn't happen overnight with IBM. It took years for them to build up our trust and demonstrate that they really have turned around. It would take at least as long with Microsoft ... probably a bit longer, because the current generation of technology people doesn't remember just how bad IBM really was at times, but everyone knows how bad Microsoft is.

I don't think the current generation of Microsoft management is capable of doing so, even if they wanted to. Maybe after Gates, Ballmer, and Allchin reture.
