right.

something kinda funny, they changed the policy on our w2k netowrk so that you have to be anetwork admin to make a change to your registry, which of course means that all of those "critical" updates fail.

i'm not sure what they (the network admin people) are trying to do, but i confess that i find it rather funny.

(ps, don't blame them, just imagine what kind of person takes a job like that pays probably $20/year if they
're lucky)

i meant a system administrator type job, not jobs in general. i'm under $20k.

I have a system administrator type job! :) Although I'm making closer to $40k, and I'm well enamored enough to take off early to do the stuff I really want to do (volunteer, agitate, referee).

so in other words you don't resemble the comment at all :) would you quit your nearly $40k job for a nearly $20k job working with/for incompetent fools? i didn't think so :)

I can't imagine doing a system admin job for less than $20K. In all honesty, I'd laugh at someone who only offered me $20K to do system admin work.

I've got the incompetent fools part down, though. :) Had a client complain that our instructions weren't clear enough on how to access our Extranet, so she kept using a FTP client - despite the first sentance stating, "Use your web browser...". Sent an internal revision of the document with web browser in 72 point.

yes, it's yahoo DSL. the prodigy people are actually handling some of the back end stuff of your registration and account management, but alas, prodigy is no more.

fucking ibm fucking websphere.
the java vm takes 200 meg of memory on my machine. I only have 256 meg. The thing spends all of its time swapping, takes literally 5 minutes to start or stop the test server which you have to do each timeyou make a change and redeploy your application.

Don't develop software on your desktop, then. Demand a host computer to build stuff on.
