So, um, did the FCC just screw DSL customers or is it just me?

Yes, the FCC did screw DSL customers.

I'm amongst the screwed. Worse, considering that Verizon's service (if you can think of it as such) is completely and utterly unreliable.

The RBOC's have spent millions of dollars lobbying for "deregulation" so that they can have their fair share (100%) of the market.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I only hope that VADI continues to exist and continues to offer wholesale DSL networks to specialty ISP's. Considering the fact that they charge the ISP's more for a wholesale circuit than they charge consumers for the circuit plus Internet service, it certainly is possible.

Otherwise I'm going to have to start shelling out $80/month for "Verizon Business DSL." :(

I've had their service for all of a month, and now they're taking it away.
this sucks.

Why fiber and not dsl?

Yeah, that really stinks.

I'm guessing they don't have enough real IP addresses or something.

It doesn't add up. Clearly it has to do with Verizon taking advantage of recent FCC changes (after all, we have the best government money can buy), but the exact nature of this change is unclear.

Could it be that Verizon has decided not to allow third-party ISP's to terminate subscriber connections on fiber? If that's the case, Acecape would really be just selling you re-branded Verizon FIOS, which is completely useless; you may as well just be buying it directly from Verizon.

Or, if Verizon decided that Acecape and others must now do PPPoE in order to allow Verizon to bundle "other services" on the line, then theoretically Acecape should be able to offer static IP anyway.

If they can't do static IP, their value add is gone and there's no point in using the service.

yeah, that's what I was thinking, or would have thought if I thought it through.
what you say makes sense, and I await a response from ace, maybe it's just a hoax.
Maybe they can run dsl over my fiber so that I can get a static ip.

Unfortunately, this was not spam. And, in general, you got the picture
right. We cannot say anymore because we are bound by an NDA. That takes
out the whole lobbying idea.

We realize that you incurred costs transferring your domains, but those
will
be offset by free service which you will receive until the final switch
occurs.

We will contact you with more concrete options later this week.

They haven't notified DSL users of any change, so this appears to be a fiber-only thing.

This sucks in a big way, and it will affect everyone here. I was going to subscribe to this service when it became available here, which would have provided faster access to Uncensored for everyone.

Please post all the updates as you get them, Ford...

yeah, I called verizon this morning, talked toa FIOS person and she said fiber isn't regulated at all.
So I said well then somebody at verizon is voluntarily screwing ace, can I talk to those people? I have no idea what you're talking about, call the FCC>
So I sent a note to ace seeing if they know anything.

Ford - Keep pushing. It's not like you have anything to lose. What are they going to do? Get rid of your static IP if you don't stop asking?
