Wow. That's a pretty new vehicle for $500. The Ranger Danger is an 02 and doesn't get great mileage but I think we could sell it for at least $5000.

Is the Yukon pretty trashed?

nope, you don't have the benefit of living in westchester.
Rich people in westchester treat money like the rest of us treat toothpicks. If you don't want it anymore, throw it away.
The truck was in good condition except the brake lines had rusted out. So my neighbor buddy bought it from the previous owner, replaced the brake lines, and voila brand new truck for $500

What year is it? I'm thinking of like a 2005 or so but I can't imagine something that new having rusted brake lines.

Sorry, I asked you something you had already told me regarding the vehicle year.

Additionally I know where I'm going to buy my next car.

I don't know about your locale but the Wal-Mart here pretty much has a small car dealership in one corner of the parking lot. 8 - 12 cars for sale most of the time. It's probably illegal. I'm sure they could all be towed away.

That's certainly true here. I got rid of the diesel Bug I yakked about, the tranny was ready to be replaced for $3000.  So I went and got hosed again by a dealer. It's a case of who took who. They had to spend $500-1000 on the car. If anyone sees a cheap tdi Bug in Hickory and they think it would be a great thing to buy it and drive it home, think again please.

Yesterday kate's honda failed inspection because one of the front brake calipers was sticking.
I didn't think anything of it until later in the day when I happened across a nice man who happened to be a licensed inspector and he said there's nothing in the rules that he knows of about stuck calipers.
I looked up on NYS website and it's kinda vague but it basically says there has to be some pad, the pedal can't fade and the master cylender must not be leaking.
This would explain why the garage guy sounded so dejected when he asked me if I wanted an estimate and I told him "no I'm going to do it myself, thanks."
Now I'm sure the caliper is sticking, it's been making a funny noise for a few months, but it shouldn't have failed inspection because of that.

So I looked on the DMV website and there's really not much you can do to anybody but sue them, and he didn't exactly screw me, he just tried to screw me.
So I'm debating going back there and screaming until he passes the car, and letting him pay for the safety inspection or just walking away and going somewhere else.
Assholes, all of them.

I realize everybody gets screwed by mechanics, but I guess I know enough to find out how I'm getting screwed and Ijust get so angry.
This came 1 day after getting stuck with a $1700 to get my GTI to pass.
I'll admit that it shouldn't have passed (tires and cat) but they told me they'd help it pass, and when I showed up just said "nope, gotta fix it."

I've never been comfortable, even near mechanics, they make me nervous. I don't know why, I have no problem with buildering contractors, merchant seamen, airline pilots, or, well, just about any kind of professional, but mechanics *shudder* just can't cope, at all.

Perhaps there's a name for it.

Sadly I don't own a lotus yet, so I took what I had. This picture was taken by the guy behind me.
