Would anyone want to buy a New Beetle that gets 40 mpg? I think I should have bought a pickup truck instead, like a Dodge Cummins. I'll give you a good price.

Ordered an OBDII-Bluetooth gateway.
This could get interesting. :)

I have a roll of aluminum foil in a drawer in my kitchen ... I think it's probably safer in an accident than the Focus. :)

>.< I have to admit.. it's not the safest car out there *cough* but it gets me from "A" to "B" and back to "A" on decent gas mileage. - good for long road trips as long as you're not next to a semi-truck most of the way there; one false move and *squish* there goes my front-end.
There is a reason NASCAR uses this model car for their standard for Ford. "speed and reliability... we have a rollcage for safety" .... lot of good that does me...

Oh well, I'm getting used to sooting folks. One of the bosses at work wanted a Benz and got it. Whether or not he'll have it after several repair bills is something else again. For some reason there's lots of folks here who buy a Benz or Jag for use as a front. My uncle used to repair Jags, and told me to never buy one because the repair bills can be gigantic.

"sooting" ?? What's that?

I have a diesel car. When a diesel auto is operated at slow speeds, usually under 45 mph, it tends to build up soot particles in the exhaust pipes. When the turbo kicks in above 45 and the rpm is above 3000, the soot is expelled through the pipes and muffler into the path of the poor sap immediately behind my car in traffic. The VW diesels do not produce much soot anyway. So nobody is much bothered. Now, a diesel pickup truck can completely cover the next car/motorcycle in a cloud of soot. It is relatively low in pollution, just startling in appearance. And not beneficial for you if you're driving that next car, because you will tend to stop suddenly instead of driving through it to escape the cloud. It's humorous in movies, though.

Rudolf: ok, so if you walked in the soot, and then tracked it inside the house, would that be your carbon footprint?

Probably. I do have to find a way to clean it better. When it's rainy, the soot collects on the rear bumper. I may sell it. I'm getting a little tired of the 'chick car look', and the 'clown car look'. Some guy in Linville has a CJ-7 for sale. I think I'll check it out. I could always sell the Bug to some clowns, or a certain mascot expert. I could sell it to Ig, but I'm not sure if he can buy an out of state diesel car.

...you're also not sure whether IG is in the market for a car in the first place.

That was quick. So, you don't need a cute car that gets 40+ MPG? I suspect I may have a hard time selling it privately, then again, folks with long commutes might want it.

I have a twelve mile commute and a reasonably efficient car that's fully paid for. Otherwise I would consider it an opportunity.

I just bought front rotors from some retired guy on ebay for half what it costs at amazon, and 1/3 less than tirerack.
Was this a smart move?
Never fuck around with the brakes is one thing I've learned about cars over the years.
But I is a cheap bastard....

Anyone following the nonsense about the Olympics? B. Hussein Obama was pushing hard to have the 2016 games in his home town of Chicago. It ain't happening.

I love the headlines on Drudge today:

"The Ego Has Landed"

and

"World Rejects Obama"

Elsewhere on the 'nets, there's already chatter floating around that the Olympic Committee is a bunch of racists.

just depends which race you're talking about.
Usually it's a country more than a genetic disposition.
