naw, suburban. I don't have to worry about meter maids. I just ride around until I find a similar looking car and put the ticket on it - let them pay it. No one ever checks the plate number on the ticket anyway.

I'd rather fire rockets at the little cart that the meter maid drives around on.

You do know they have shields on those things, right? And mortar launchers as well.

Meter maids are indestructible - I think when they sign their contracts they are eternally linked to

Hell and signed in blood.

They need those shields because everyone, even the REAL police treat them like crap.

Yeah, in law-enforcement hierachy, I'm pretty sure it's CIA/FBI, state troopers/sherriffs, swat, city police, armoured car guards, security guards/mall cops, and then meter maids/parking officials.

Just find a station that will do a quickie inspection: You hand them the fee, they hand you a sticker. There's one here, but this is NC, which doesn't do you any good. By the way, all the cops in 5 counties know about the place, and don't do anything about it.

I'd like to see a meter maid put a parking ticket on a police cruiser. Hilarity ensues.

Say, Ford, what engine is in your GTI? Do you know anything about the VR6? A couple dealers here have a Jetta GLX, and a GTI GLX. What's good, and what's bad?

an average GTI should have a 4 cyls 2l engine. the usual 16 valves and so on.

the VR6 is s.th. rather special, it has 6 cyls, and is build asymetric; its exhaus pipes go of to one side of the engine, the intake is on the other, though its sort of a V motor.

Its got some extra weights so it runs more solid; plus lots of electronic to keep it going. Its a beast on the road; over here the raw engine is traded for higher prices than whole cars ;-)

While sitting it it feels like sort of sitting in an older diesel car. Its rather vibrating, the engine keeps shaking you.

I LOVE my vr6.
I had two of the 1.8s (8v and 16v) and they were nice for their size, but the vr6 is just dreamy. I'm amazed they dropped it for the turbos.
I never drove a vw turbo, but I know turbo lag in general sucks (I had a surbaru wrx)
Is it an mk3 or mk4?
I'd get an mk4 if you could, the mk3s were all weird.
I still have my mk4 vr6 running like a charm, 10 years old.

Today I got lucky. I gave in to that horrible road rage temptation and raced a guy from a traffic light who was rather upset with me because he thought I cut him off.
I was winning when the cop pulled us over. He was not pleased.
I was lucky because he gave me 2 non movings instead of the 7 movings, loss of license and impounded car he would have given me if I tried to bullshit him.

Not my best showing.

somebody told me a few months ago that there was an auto parts place (possibly a chain) that would basically rent you tools by letting you buy them and return them for full price when you're done.
Does this ring a bell? Anybody know of such a place?
