It was a dead heat. General Motors sold 9.37 million vehicles worldwide in 2007 and lost $38.7 billion. Toyota sold 9.37 million vehicles in 2007 and made $17.1 billion.

"I'm thinking GM isn't doing things the right way, eh?"

So I got a vag com cable.
I hook my gti up to my brand spanking old laptop and after a lot of sitting outside in the cold screwing around with it, I got it to work.
Sadly it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, mostly, but it did tell me things I would never have imagined it could tell me.
The fuel gague intermittently flakes out, and it had a fault code for that.
One of the radio's rear loudspeakers has an occasional short.
I would never imagine they put circuitry into the instrument cluster to do diagnosis. Just amazing.

I wonder how long the automotive industry will manage to continue using proprietary interfaces to everything. It's the 21st century now; every vehicle should have an embedded web server for diagnostics.

Be creative.

I might try this, actually.

well, that was 10 years ago, who knows what they have now.
Actually they can't. OBD II is a federally required standard.
They could make a web interface, but it would be a waste of money because they'd still have ti implement OBD II

Best car chase scene in a movie?

I don't know - I love the inital opening scene in Transporter, but French Connection is a classic, and I like the scene in Ronin.

But, there's a movie out there called 'The Chase' starring Charlie Sheen, in which the entire movie is a car chase. Cheesy as hell, but pure fun.

Ford, you're considerably more knowledgeable about your car than the average person. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, either. So you may not need one of those. Most non mechanics with a TDI really scream when they are hit with giant repair bill, so it's recommended that those folks buy one.

well the only reason I know that my o2 sensor is bad is beacuse I also have a vw/audi code reader.
the vag com thing tells me tons more stuff, but it doesn't change the fact that I need an o2 sensor and it's 20F out.

So I went to traffic court yesterday in dobbs ferry, and I guess the small town courts have a little more leeway in what they do.
I don't think my cop was there, but it didn't matter.
The judge spent 10 minutes explaining what was going to happen, including that there was a district court lady there to hand out deals.
As I expected, the big speedings were reduced to little speedings and the minor infractions were reduced to non-movings.
So I got away with $75 and no points which was my goal of the evening, so I win.
But I wanted to look up what a 1201 was and got this page:
http://www.nytrafficticket.com/dmv/
I think this in my favorite:
1214 Unsafe opening/closing of car door
0 points

My last speeding ticket was in North Salem, NY (7 years ago).  I researched my situation and found that in NY a cop can not park on private property and run radar w/o the writen permission of the property owner.  While I was going a little over the limit, He was not on public ground where he was parked... (1 for the good guys)...   I went into court w/ all the precident paperwork and was ready to fight... When the judge saw my stack he asked if it was going to be a long night (I was the last case called).  The officer offered a no-points/reduced fee option and I just had to stand there and agree.  Made the judge happy, made me happy to not try my hand at being a non-compis lawyer.

The highlight of the evening in court was the case before mine.  Some kid (late teens / early 20s) from Buffalo (9 hour drive at legal speeds each way, for those who don't know.) was in for a speeding violation.  His officer was not in, and the kid gave the "in the interest of justice" line (No witness, no case, gets tossed.. typically)  The judge looked over the ticket and outright refused the kid..  THe kid had been busted for doing over 90 in a 55.  The kid was pissed, the Judge tossed back that he should have had his licensed pulled on the spot, and that he will have his day in court.

One of my friends played a joke on a few drunks using biodiesel B-100. He had a barmaid come out with opaque liter steins full of B-100. He poured the contents of the steins into his old diesel Benz, paid the maid, and drove off waving at the drunks. The joke setup was there was this German beer that was so good, you could run a car on it, bla bla bla. Of course, it was a very special beer.

911.
It just turned 25.
When I talked to them, they didn't seem to care that it was classic or historic. As far as I can tell, they really just insure a dollar amount.
And since it's not worth much, it's cheap.
Actually I did the math wrong, I think I saved 60%.
Now I'm wondering if I can insure everything with them.
I guess I can if I never drive them anywhere.

Okay, so I went outside, and sure enough all 4 tires were low.
it's supposed to be 33psi in the front 39 in the rear.
They were 24 in the front 29 in the rear.
Could all or most of that be becuase of the temperature?
