Maybe they -were- oxidized and they cleaned that off...

If the metal had oxidized, I would expect the remaining surface not to be smooth as the day it was new no? You'd see a rough surface where the metal was gone, right?
I'm not the chemist, but that's what I'd think would happen.

The first time somebody said that to me was when I had my bishi detailed before I sold it. It was 8 years old and washed maybe twice and never cleaned inside when I brought it to them (different place) and curiously they had the same opinion of me and my car cleaning habits.

Just pay a few bucks and run your car through a car wash once in a while.
If you really care about your cars appearance then no you wouldn't put it through a mechanical washer, but then if you really care you wouldn't leave it for years without a wash :) Car washes are good.. in 5-10 minutes your car looks nice.

agreed. I don't really care how my car looks.
When I did care how my car looked, I washed and waxed it every week or two.
And it got stolen for parts.
Never again.
This was a gift or I never would have done it. I like driving my car more than looking at it, so I keep it mehcanically happy.
But there's still the matter of the inside, that gets plenty of dirty anyway. I think that's what they were more peeved about.
now ze portch I wash and wax every once in a while, and it loooooookkkkss niiyeeeeeccce.

There should be a law that everybody has to have one of these at some point in their life.

A detailing makes a good present too. Cause when you're sitting inside a newly cleaned car it's like "wow".

Have one of what? A detailing, or a Porche?

I'd really love to drive a two-seater but I haul too much gear around every weekend ;)

Well not every weekend, but every now and then I haul enough gear to jam-pack the back and backseat of my wagon.

So instead I've determined to find myself a chick who drives a two-seater. >:-)

Now that Ford has a clean car the sinkhole is going to eat it.

Jock,

My friend drives the Saturn SUV.  He's 6'5" and fits quites nicely - and it's not uncomfortable for me (5'3), which is unusual.  The cargo space seems a little less than I have in my 4-Runner - but for some reason the shape of the 4-Runner seems to be such that he feels squished in it.

Aahz's car might also work for you (if lugging space is not a necessity), given that he's 6'4" - and it, too, is quite comfy.

LS - just find the right "chick" and buy her the two-seater......  'Course finding the Right Chick to buy a two-seater for is probably a lot harder than finding the right two-seater attached to any old chick...  ;-)

Curly, Of course!  Why would it want to eat something dirty?  *g*
