Congrats on your many years together, Casa, and best wishes for many more.
I wish that I could say that was true for me, but I am on my 4th "marriage/engagement" due to a divorce on #1 and the deaths of numbers 2 and 3. Life has not been kind to me in terms of partnerships. I have had one of my cats longer than any of my partnerships. *sigh*

Oops. Wrong room. ;-)

*happy happy*

My old car feels much newer now.

A loose heat shield was riveted back on, and they replaced a motor mount and a transmission mount. All the rattles are gone, everything feels tighter, and there's definitely a little more power available.

I'm very happy.

sure Jock, what year? It'll go great with my 89 Grand Wagoneer in the driveway(speaking of heavy metal gas hogs). BTW, I picked up a Volvo 240 GL for 250$ plus a 100$ to register it and pay off a ticket. It's a funnny story, and if ya wanna hear it i will spit it out. however, the question here is how the hell do I disengage the dams button on the driver's side that turns the overdrive on/off?

you didn't buy a volvo 240 because you wanted to drive fast, so the overdrive is useful as a gas saver above 50mph or so.

The CJ7 is from 1979. 304 ci engine, and good lift kit. He has a large custom shop. It's galloways4wdcenter.com . Lester is having a truck show and sale Oct. 29. Shameless plug.

Curly, you will find out how ham handed I am when I re-do your circumcision…I have a 19 year old who has as well already damaged 3 vehicles and had a collision in 11 months.

Subject: Volvo saga for Iggy

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Anyway, story of the Volvo--I 'm driving along and I see this good looking 240 Gl wagon on the steet with a for sale sign on it. Since the 19 year old has 1/hit another car with the 89 Grand Wagoneer (totalling the other guy of course), thrown a rod on the Totyota Camry by putting transmission fluid in the oil AND not putting the oil cap back on then driving all the oil out of the car, then burned out the seat adjustment motors on the GW holding them in place "because the seat wasn't close enough to the wheel" (she's only 5'4"), I thought "AHA! a nice safe car for the kid! (Not to mention the number of times I have been hit because that's another story ) I call the number. We are in San Antonio, the number is in Fort Worth. The owner says she has already sold the car but thanks for calling anyway. Well, four months later the Volvo hasn't moved, so I call again and the owner says "Oddly enough, the people I sold it to haven't bothered to register it." SO I offer to keep an eye on the vehicle and sure enough, the apartment complex puts a notice on it for selling a car on the grounds, and within a month it has a ticket for being abandoned. I call the owner again and offer to deal with the ticket and get the car off the street, and she gratefully accepts. It turns out that when she sold the Volvo for $2500, the buyers handed her the money, decided to go for another test drive while she got the title out and so on, and they never came back. So, for my kindness, she offers to sell me the V for $2K, which sounds good, but since my step-daddy was the Bexar County chief mechanic for 20 years, and my daddy raced stock cars, and my younger brother is a mechanic, I ask if it's okay if I take it to a mechanic and find out what it will cost me to fix before I committ to that price. Well, in spite of the fact that the oil change records are perfectly in order for the life of the car, no other maintenance has been done so every seal and gasket needs to be replaced since it leaks oil like a sieve now and the brakes are grindy, and I tell her that it will cost me about $2000 to pay Vollmer's Automotive to fix it. So, I offer her $200 and to pay the ticket and she accepted. Another hundred bucks to register the expired registration and I have a great fixer-upper. The interior is in good shape except that the drivers seat has been replaced with a black seat and someone's kid left oatmeal cookies and fritos everywhere (there were used diapers in the car-peeeuuuuuuuu!) but the tires are perfect, and aside from the speakers and grilles (which I foun on e-bay for $20) and the file baskets on the doors it's in great shape. No idea how it got from Fort Worth to San Antonio, or what became of the other buyers, so it is a small mystery. BTW, I have found that you can buy replacement tracks for Grand Wagoneer electric windows for about $20 on e-bay plus shipping, new window motor and track for $35 and seat motors for about $40 apiece. I can recommend a seller very highly : Nickspartsplus. I could find the parts cheaper by going to a pick a part or some such, but I wouldn't be able to gurantee the parts functioned, so Nick is the best for my dollar. I haven't looked very hard for Volvo parts yet--one car at a time says my brother who's doing the work--he doesn't do volvos anyway, so I will have to pay Vollmers to do the work, boo. Hows that for a story though?

Thank you thank ya very much--we are very lucky is all I can say. We have a monster fight about once eery 3-5 years (the kind you can hear down the block) but other than that we don't fight. So, like I said, we are damn lucky, and thanks for the good wishes. Isn't that a great car story though? and it's the truth too. Damnedest thing. And in spite of burning oil and needing various mechanical replacements, the Volvo runs smooth. Go figure.
