Freak: Interesting story... The week I came home from the hospital (from being born), all my siblings came down with chicken pox.

I was nursing so I had my mom's immunity. I never had chicken pox.

And, having said that I'd never heard of such a thing...now I have.

Having chicken pox, once, doesn't actually mean you're immune from
getting them again. I've known a number of people who have had them
more than once.

i know, i had it twice as a kid (and then shingles a few years ago). i don't know what determines whether you get the systemic thing or not. presumably you need exposure to the virus, whereas in shingles you don't. but that begs the question, what about people who get shingles in multiple, non-continuous dermatomes?

oddly enough, right before the roofing jokes started, the pain in my scars flared up a little. it's not bad, but it definitely hurts if anything touches it. (then it stops for months at a time). next time i'll start the drugs faster and hopefully avoid the scarring. i just really thought i had a spider bite (or 4), and it wasn't until it started looking like a poisonous spider bite (ie, ulcerated) that i thought a doctor should look at it.

O.k... I'm a firm believer that a hammer can be used creatively to fix almost
anything. But this latest thread-of-threads really belongs in the "Health and Wellness
room". Please bash me about the head with a limp flounder if I am wrong.

Nadia - Yes, I've had shingles more than once. Twice to be exact. Had nothing to do with roofing or home improvement.

And Yes, the non-roofing shingles thread probably does belong in the Health and Wellness room.

LOL! Nadia, that was truly a good one! :)

I was planning on all kinds o' yard work & gardening stuff but got whammied
by dear old Mother Nature the last couple of days. Should start drying out tomorrow.
The first thing I need to do is build a third compost heap at the head of the garden.
Unfortunately this involves moving the pile of rotting pumpkins left over from last Halloween.
Linus!!! Where are you when I need you???

had trouble with my washer. called a repairman. described the problem.

he told me how to clean the filter.

He could have taken 40 bucks for the visit and I wouldn't have been upset. As it stands, I'm in awe!

nadia - that's true. He's also the guy who showed up the morning before the passover seder to fix my mom's oven (she had like 12 people coming for dinner and the oven was dead as a doornail.)

indeed. The guy who installed my ceiling fans was not one... ugh! I have top-quality hunter fans, but all the switches are bass-ackwards and I suspect that there's something wrong with the wiring that makes the special "long-lasting" bulbs die after about 3-4 months!

donno. my parents have twice as many fans as I do, and they don't seem to change bulbs nearly as often as we do.

I'm a good repairman. does that mean I can sell myself on the open market?
