Pecorino is delicious just the way it is. I'll enjoy mine without maggots, thanks.

"Because the larvae in the cheese can launch themselves for distances up to 15 centimetres (6 in) when disturbed, diners hold their hands above the sandwich to prevent the maggots from leaping into their eyes."

FUCKING HELL FUCKING NO!

Well....no to my taste.  I used to love Lauren Hutton (model and actress).  Then I saw here in some show in Africa.  Her and a bunch of kids were eating Termites as they left the nest.  Killed all my desire right there.

Still....insects are a great source of protein.

Piophila casei larvae are very resistant to human stomach acid and can pass
through the stomach alive, taking up residency for some period of time in the
intestines and causing stomach lesions and other gastrointestinal problems.

Hmmm....

I think you are supposed to chew them first.  I doubt they are resistant to human molars.

Aaarrgghh ... dothebart is taunting me with photos of Döner Kebab, and now that's exactly what I want for lunch today.  But I've already brown-bagged a meatloaf sandwich (no pervects were harmed in the making of today's lunch).

Curse you and your food porn!!!!!1

(Oh, and I might as well not be the only one ... http://i40.tinypic.com/2q9kzmw.jpg ... there you go)

I think it's time to get the rotisserie attachment for my grill so we can make up a big mess of doner/shawarma/gyro meat for a cookout this spring.
(And as far as I'm concerned, the Greeks invented it.)

Union Station? Are you in DC?

We have a Union Station In Indianapolis.  Not used much any more (I don't know if you can catch a train there anymore).  but there are a few Greek/eastern vendors downtown in the summer.

My first year in Israel, I ate shawarma for breakfast most days. Fortunately, at the end of the year, I had pneumonia and lost those 10 lbs. (yeah, only 10... I didn't eat much for lunch or dinner)

Did they ever clean up the monument downtown in Indianapolis? When I was last there (1985) it was a mess... people had defaced it with grafittee, and apparently there was a lot of impending structural damage (just from decay).

The soldier's monument.. I think that's what it's called.
