fleeb - i'm pretty sure the cheese you keep mentioning is "gruyere", not "grueler" ;) and yes, it's a fantastic cheese - one of my favorites.

for grilled cheese, i like a sharp cheddar, sometimes with some other sorts of of cheese thrown in for variety, and i just use a pan and some butter :) no fancy sandwich-making devices needed, thanks. on general principle, i dislike having tools in my kitchen that only have one use. i find that with most of those things, a more generic tool can do the job just as well, and with less clutter.

You're correct, mosephine, but I love my misspelling.

I dunno, I think a panini press would be nice to have around...

We were thinking of getting one of them, but then reconsidered. It's just another kitchen implement you use a few times at the start, and then they sit generally collecting dust. All those informercial ones, The Juicer, That 'set-it-and-forget-it' oven from Ronco, the waffle makeers, the grilled cheese sandwich makers - about the only thing we use on a semi-regular basis is the Magic Bullet, and more and more I find myself pulling out our regular blender because it seems those blades just don't have the power to shred cheese like it shows on the commericals, or even slice up strawberries - very weak power.

I want the ultimate kitchen appliance :

"Will It Blend?" blender - the blender that blends MARBLES, digital cameras, magnets, and yes, the Iphone - iPhone smoothie, anyone?

Just got through with watching the entire feasting on asphalt 2 on the food network.  Man do I want to travel.  All that real american food that is basically getting lost to time due to the crap and the corporate food garbage restaurants is terrible.  Makes me even sicker to see mcdonalds, kfc, applebees.  When is someone going to take a chance and build a good old fasion diner around here damnit!

Ah, good my dominoes is here.

Groo - You live in Westchester. There are tons of old fashioned diners around here.

Well, there are the small greek restaurants all over the place that basically make the same crap as each other.  But where is there that old school old style artery clogger mom and pop truck stop style restaurants that are hidden all over middle america, in westchester? The ones that have recipies that have been handed down for generations and generations, with secret ingredients.....

Feasting on Asphalt really got me hungry.

I've only seen one episode of that, it also made me hungry.  Watching the food network when you are hungry is like watching porn.

Groo - Have you tried the Thornwood diner, or the Bedford Hills diner?

Bedford has unfortunately gone downhill over the last couple of years. Jimmy hasn't been there quite as much, and when he's there, he looks as if he's been dealing with a health problem of some sort. The service isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be, and the food is just ho-hum (but the prices went up).

Personally I don't go there as often anymore because I don't feel like running into Dipshit, who still goes there even though he no longer lives in the area.

I like thornwood pizza.  Probable my top 3 favorite pizzarias in westchester.  I'll try and make it to thornwood sometime soon.  What are some of their specialties?
