A bundle based on the Funambol 7.1 tree (currently in development) has been released at http://bionicmessage.net/node/18 . There is a new web administration interface which makes the whole thing easier to setup, so please try it and share feedback.

Schweet!!!  I'll be trying it out, shortly.

Matt:

The download page says that JRE 1.6 is needed for the snapshot, and is included with the +JRE snapshot tarball.

However, unpacking that tarball reveal:

drwxr-xr-x matt/matt         0 2009-02-13 01:38:33 Funambol/tools/jre-1.5.0/

Is this going to be an issue?

Also, can I install this over my existing installation, and if so, will it pick up my current settings?

The scripts used to create a Funambol bundle currently refer to "1.5", I've left it like that. The one with JRE should come with 1.6 under that dir

Oh...ok.

So, does this have any sort of "upgrade" functionality, or do I need to, basically, wipe and reinstall?

You'll have to wipe and reinstall. There is too much difference internally to "upgrade".

The client configuration remains the same though.

Thanks.

One last question...do I have to have it rebuild the database(s), or will it work with the existing database(s)?

The most that could be migrated is the user database Funambol keeps, and that gets rebuilt anyway as users sync on the new install.

Best migration path is to move/delete the old install and install/configure the new one. Each device will end up doing a "slow" sync when they connect again, but after that it will be the same as before.

If you configured your device to use the "groupdav-cal-*" / "groupdav-addr-*" etc. sync sources, no further reconfiguration is required other than the new install wizard.

Hello,

I am  very happy to see that funambol integration with citadel via bionicmessage groupdav now works very well.

Unfortunately I have a problem with my sony m600i (symbian). It does not support categories in todo so when I modify a todo on phone and I sync it to citadel I lose categories for that todo. I suppose it is not a bug but I hope I can find a workaround for it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am impressed with Citadel and now I would like to get the Funambol working. I must have missed something with setting up citadel with the newest snapshot http://latest.bionicmessage.net/funambol-7.1.1-bm-SNAPSHOT.tgz.  I untar it to /opt/ and attempt to start the funambol service but although I get the tomcat page on the http://myserver:8080 I get no /WebConfig nor anything else.

The 2.5 stable installs fine (but I seem not to be able to auth from the Citadel users - demo works ok)  but not the snapshot. Any suggestions for me?

Thanks for your efforts on this, I suspect it is me not the software, I could just do with a few pointers!

anything on /funambol/ , and /funambol/ds ?

Do you have an existing Java runtime on your system, defined in the $JAVA_HOME environment variable? (unset it if it is)

Subject: Citadel Funambol settings inquiry

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Greetings all.

I have been inquiring a bit on the main citadel forum list, however, I want to know what I should use for the funambol sync source.  I am attempting to get Funambol and citadel running, and don't see any reference to the citadel-centric settings, as far as what citadel is support to have for settings.

thanks for the time.

I guess I can indicate that this issue has been resolved. I finally found the documentation segment that would assist me in this configuration inquiry.  I think it may help others to make this aspect of the doucmentation more pronounced.  I have over looked it like three times, however, that may be do to my 20/400 vission being corrected to 20/20. :)

Thanks again.

Sure you wish to use Funambol with Outlook? I recommend using the Bynari plugin for Outlook instead which accesses Citadel directly, though I do support using Funambol+Outlook now. Anyway, the Outlook plugin does tend to be tempremental..

A copy of the log files would be very helpful, see http://wiki.bionicmessage.net/index.php?title=Groupware_sync_guide#Troubleshooting for instructions on how to get them

Thank you, everything is back online now.  Still not working but maybe I'll figure it out or loose interest. I'm using the Outlook Plugin because in our organization thats what we'd need if this worked. Here's what I get:

The plugin logs on and a message box pops up and tells me the server is requesting a upload of the contacts, calender and tasks, asking if it's okay . I click the okay button and the plugin starts processing my 31 contacts, then it stops processing. About 2 or 3 seconds later another message box pops up telling me that the server can't be accessed and to check it's location.

I'm confused how the server that requested the full sync can't be accessed or found when the data arrives (Sync starts). Kinda reminds me of a ex wife I once had.

My first thought was that it is a network issue. But itis not. The server has plenty of bandwidth and the hardware - software aren't under any stressed conditions.

I have internet on my pocket PC and plan on giving that a shot later today.

Once again, thanks for helping this old newbie out!

You'll want to go to the Funambol installation directory (I think it defaults to /opt/Funambol...personally, I installed into /usr/local/Funambol), and run "start.sh".

I'd actually recommend adding "/path/to/funambol/start.sh" to your /etc/rc.local and "/path/to/funambol/stop.sh" to your /etc/rc.shutdown.

I'm also exploring regular rc style start/stop scripts.

As to whether or not it's working, I ran into the same thing for a bit, when I first installed it...the documentation covers it, though.

You need to point your syncml client at the "groupdav-xxxx-v" sources, not the "task", "event" or "contacts".

Under "Modules", open the "groupdav" grouping, then "BionicMessageGroupDAVConnector". You'll find the GroupDAV Calendar and GroupDAV Contacts options. Under each of those, depending on whether you're using a syncml client that can do vcal/vcard or SIF, pick the right options with the -s (SIF) or -v (vcard/vcal).

After that, it should work just fine.

Our problem appears to be with the embedded photos in the contacts, its an issue I identified some time back but haven't been able to track down, basically when a vcard is saved to disk some newlines get deleted, breaking the formatting required to embed the photo. I'll put together a testcase, someone else may be able to shed some light on it.

Matt...did you get my message?  Did it shed any light on the issue?

I'm playing around with v7 at the moment. Nothing really new for the connectors, just a recompile. If someone runs into a brick wall with the current implementation they could try a Funambol 7 build with the groupdav connector preinstalled:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/bionicmessage-dist/funambol-7.0.6-bm.tar.bz2

This doesn't contain any of the configuration tools shipped with my distribution (yet).
