Subject: Documentation for replication of two servers

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi support,

yes, I'm a newbie for citadel support ...

Where do I find how to setup replication of two active citdel servers?

I did the config, but how does one server replicates automatically everything to the other and vice versa -

I want to run them as mx10 and mx20 smtp-servers,

Cheers,

The cox

PS: Guys thanks for creating such cool mail and groupware server!!!

Unless you're intending to do something like hotmail, secondary mx'es are just an easy inbound for spam. You wouldn't use a citadel for that, maybe a postfix.

You'd allways have the problem that it has to know the recipients available on the primary.

Thankfully SMTP knows another thing to make it more reliable: Retry. One can lean on that several delivery attempts will be done (up to a week)  before the sender gives up. (If not, forget about it, its a spammer anyways...)

So, if you have an outage and get back up, you can expect the mails to arive in the timeframe of several hours.

However, to get back up quicker, you can run citadel on a drdb filesystem, so you have a backup system where you only need to start the citserver to take over, hand over ip's, done.

If you have shared storage, this also isn't neccessary anymore nowadays; you simply boot the VM on the other box with the root filesystem from the dead box.

Subject: How to update citadel from 8.24 to 9.01 via easyinstall?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Will easyinstall update the 8.24 to 9.01?

Is database compatible?

Not sure what the problem was, but when I tried to easyinstall, the database got damaged.

When i removed /usr/local/citadel/data directory, then it would run OK. But everything was gone as far as data or configs go.

I was trying to run easyinstall when citadel server was still running. Could that be the problem?

Subject: Bug re: Primary Internet Email Addresses

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Found a bug (not the latest version).

Suppose there are two citadel users, a and b.  And two domains, d1.com and d2.com

User a has address a@d1.com, a@d2.com and c@d1.com

User b has address b@d1.com, b@d2.com and c@d2.com

If the primary internet email address for a is c@d1, and for b is c@d2 -- all email is bounced with a 550 invalid recipient.

Only if the primary internet email address has a unique recipient name (a for d1 and b for d2) will mail be accepted normally.

Cheers,

Harry

Use case:  a = "webmasterd1"  b="webmasterd2"  c="webmaster".

Could you have a look at the syslog, and see what its printing there before it goes away?

platonov: if it's crashing, we need to see a stack trace. There are two ways to do this. If it's happening frequently, you can just run citserver in the debugger. Shut it down the normal way, then do

cd /usr/local/citadel
gdb ./citserver
run

Wait for it to crash, then type "bt" for a backtrace. Post the output.

If it's not happening frequently, then you have to enable core dumps and wait for one.

Hmm, that looks suspiciously like it's crashing inside of the OpenSSL library.

Is it possible that you have multiple versions of OpenSSL installed on your system? Or, is it possible that you have citserver and libcitadel linked against different versions, as might be the case if an upgrade to OpenSSL happened at exactly the right time?

I'm going to suggest the following:

1. Make sure there's only one version of OpenSSL on the system (and that your -dev package matches the library, of course)
2. rm /usr/local/ctdlsupport/etc/*.sum
3. Run the Easy Install again.

By removing the .sum files you're going to force Easy Install to rebuild everything, even the parts it "thinks" it doesn't need to.

Subject: MIGR IMPORT not importing my messages

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all,

I have an old system that's been faithfully running Citadel 8.04 for the past few years. Life happened, and all server maintenance took the very back seat. At this point, I'm thinking it'd just be better to scrap the whole OS and reinstall my stuff. Way too many config changes to keep up with if I updated everything, and I'd imagine some of those would result in an unbootable/highly broken system. As a test, I tried a ctdlmigrate to another machine. Stuff was exported and imported, much rsyncing was done, and ctdlmigrate exited with a failure message because of a missing source directory on the original machine. But everything seemed fine, so I logged in and tried listing/reading my mail. Webcit showed all my messages as empty, with no subject, dated January 1, 1970. Citadel told me it couldn't access the messages on disk. I poked at /var/log/messages, and saw that all the citserver's importing chatter was suppressed, so tried the whole thing again, only with my new citserver in the forground. This is a tiny snippet of what I got:

citserver[29869]: Imported message #29501, size=0, refcount=1, content-type: text/plain
citserver[29869]: Imported message #29502, size=0, refcount=1, content-type: text/plain
citserver[29869]: client_read_blob() failed: StrBufReadBLOBBuffered: to many selects; aborting.
citserver[29869]: Closing socket 39
...

citserver[29869]: CC[1]MSG<0000000008.Contacts> 4 new of 4 total messages, oldest=23692, newest=24604
citserver[29869]: CC[1]MSGMessage 23692 appears to be corrupted.
citserver[29869]: CC[1]MSGMessage 23693 appears to be corrupted.
citserver[29869]: CC[1]MSGMessage 23702 appears to be corrupted.
citserver[29869]: CC[1]MSGMessage 24604 appears to be corrupted.

...That goes on for quite a while. What do I need to do to fix this? A look at the xml shows that as the last message number, and sendcommand doesn't report any problems, but I really don't like the look of that client_read_blob error, and apparently citserver doesn't either. All those corrupted, inaccessible messages...

I'd appreciate any help/pointers here. I can provide more of citserver's log, just didn't think anyone would wanna see 1.6MB of that sorta thing. :)

Thanks,

KJ4UFX

What is interesting here in light of crypto related issues is that it does not crash if I remove the database files (/usr/local/citadel/data dir).

It reinitializes database and runs just fine.

Hello,

Complete newbee question now.

I'd like to use uncensored with an email client, and I just can't find the doc regarding this.

What is the imap/smtp servers name?

Ty

Ok, i found it, was not complicated (uncensored.citadel.org) but some email clients are not clever at all

But I still need to write the message from the Web server, cannot send it from my email client yet :(

Subject: Citiserver unresponsive help

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have a Citadel server that is going unresponsive a couple of times a day.  Random times, cannot track down what causes it.  I am unable to restart or shutdown the citiserve processes when this happens by either the init script or the down command.  If someone could please give me some advice as how to troubleshoot this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

When this happens, no clients can connect via SMTP or IMAP.  The citiserve process(es) are running.  The OS is Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTs.  Citadel was installed with the Easy Install method.

Thank you in advance.

Phil Schilling

can you have a look whether its blocking on too many connections?

netstat http://citadel.org/doku.php/faq:mastering_your_os:net#networking can show open connections.

if thats the reason, maybe rate limiting can help you ( https://www.debian-administration.org/article/187/Using_iptables_to_rate-limit_incoming_connections )

on the commandline

sendcommand rwho

can also show you the active connections.

In some cases slow dns may be a problem.

Thank you.  I will check out these suggestions the next time it happens.  Hopefully this will lead me to a solution.  Much appreciated.

Checked while the condition existed.  There were no more connections than at any other time.  DNS and reverse DNS respond as they should and quickly.  The send command rwho hangs at
sendcommand: started (pid=13450) connecting to Citadel server at /usr/local/citadel/citadel-admin.socket

The daemon appears to get in some sort of loop and will not respond to any sendcommand commands.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi,

I hope to install Citadel on my Raspberr Pi 2.  Is there a how to for setting up synchronization between the calendar and contacts in Citadel and an Iphone or Android?

Is there an active sync capability or caldav or carddav?

I did google but can't find a clear answer:)

Regards,

Jodel
