I have attached my out.pcap from tcpdump -ns0 -w - It happens with all email accounts, but this is my main one, only with a temp password. I did notice several incorrect checksums when I didn't redirect the output. The capture is from Evolution launch until I receive the error, then close Evolution, and stop the capture. Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for the speedy reply.

If move the citadel installation dump to other machine with new and high specs (Virtual Machine) will that work?

If it is not, how could I move achieve this?

And any plans for releasing the product for Windows?

Hi Experts,

My citadel is not dying. Of course it is a vague statement, but lot many issues with the box.

So decided to repair the installation to normal settings.

Is there any document to reinstall the entire setup including webcit.

I dont want loose userid's and mail boxes running on that box.

Your speedy help is highly helpful for me.

Thanks in advance

if you want to copy the datafiles over to the new machine, you need to have the same architecture on the target machine and the same or newer berkeley db.

as noted below, your target VM needs to have the same architecture. So if your old machine was a 32bit intel machine the new also has to be.

the migrate tool should work across architecture boundaries.

And any plans for releasing the product for Windows?

 no.

Interestingly, the error only occurs with IMAP, it works great with POP. Hopefully that will give a clue, but in the meantime, at least I can use Evolution again! Thanks!

you need to do exactly that to send mail from your domain. Make the client to smtp auth.

Or, you send from another random domain.

@wylekyote:

What I wrote was *wrong* it is the other way around, exactly as described in the link I posted:

In any *nix shell:

scp /path/to/your/bundle/YourComodoBundle.zip root@yourserver.tld:/tmp/

ssh root@yourserver '
cd /tmp
unzip YourComodoBundle.zip
cat yourserver_tld.crt COMODORSADomainValidationSecureServerCA.crt COMODORSAAddTrustCA.crt AddTrustExternalCARoot.crt > /etc/ssl/citadel/citadel.cer
cat yourserver_tld.pem > /etc/ssl/citadel/citadel.key
rm /etc/ssl/citadel/citadel.csr
/etc/init.d/citadel restart'

Assuming both your client and the server are *nix.

Try

    openssl s_client -crlf -connect das.email:465

and you will see the SSL negotiation and the whole cert chain before the SMTP prompt. Still s_client complains (I do not know why) about the AddTrustExternalCARoot selfsigned (of course it is), but Thunderbird accepts the certificate without warning - which means it is ok and s_client is wrong :P

Hope that helps,
good luck,

Renard

Sat Mar 28 2015 07:28:49 EDT from Currerius @ Uncensored Subject: Re: Citadel vs comodo certs

This page helped me with exactly the same Comodo certificate salat:

http://www.devside.net/wamp-server/installing-comodo-positivessl-certificate-bundled-with-root-and-intermediate-ca-certificates-on-apache

Note that the OP managed to mess up the sequence of the certs :D anyway he gives a hint which cert signs which.

I ended up with:

cat AddTrustExternalCARoot.crt COMODORSAAddTrustCA.crt COMODORSADomainValidationSecureServerCA.crt currerius_com.crt > currerius_com_CAbundle.crt
scp -P 443 currerius_com_CAbundle.crt root@currerius.com:/usr/local/share/ca-certificates/
ssh root@currerius.com 'update-ca-certificates'

Note that I did not have it all running and validated yet and I am a newbee to all of this, but for the bundle

openssl verify currerius_com_CAbundle.crt

says it is ok.

So I started my journey into Citadel with a half educated (possibly wrong) answer.

Hope it helps nonetheless and please post how you successfully managed to setup the Comodo Cert in the end.

I will need to do exactly the same thing.

Best regards,

Reinhard

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've recently converted thousands of old faxes into pdf files.  Each file has as it's modification date the date the fax was sent or received.

By all checks I could think of, I see that I 'Date: ' header correctly in the message as the origination date of the associated fax.

But, when I send it via Citadel, the date is always the current time.

I need client mail readers to be able to pick a 'sort by date' column and then see all the emails, and now interspersed faxes in pdf form sent as email, in order.  Even if the faxes experienced an 8+ year delay in sending.  Any ideas?  (Short of hacking citadel source)?

One "issue" that I have with some users that have administrator rights on windows is that they can change the date of the system. (past or future system date time)

Then if the user send mails, those mails arrives with the date of their windows system not the date time of citadel's server mail.

Then, maybe you can create an app that reads the date of your pdf file, then change the system date/time and sent the mail with the attached pdf. (you can test this before create a program for this)

Only issue that I'm aware that can occurs is that some applications see as an attempt of hack when the system date is changed in windows.

Changing the date system wide to send an email gets an 8 on the hack-o-meter!

But I'd have to change it on the system that runs the cit-server which is linux I think.

Also, I think the security certificates in the TLS protocol would fail because the cit-server would think the destination certs not yet valid.

My bad!

Looking at the code I see that citadel really, really wants the Date: header to be quite specifically formatted, including the day of the week as well as the numeric date, and even timezone offset!

Once I figured that out, it worked.  Now, how to get a unix file timestamp beaten into that format....

The most 'easy '  solution probably is to use the citadel networking as inroad rather than smtp.

However, you'd have to create messages in a very special format.

Subject: Re: Outbound mail beeing stuck without error

Hi Pusaken - I've been encountering a similar issue that may help someone volunteer some expertise.

My mail server almost always works perfectly - I regularly send emails to other domains without issue (gmail and Google-hosted domains, Amazon, Hotmail, etc), however I have now twice had an email message hang in my queue the way you describe below.  Both emails were sent to the @job.craigslist.org domain, and both sit in the queue.  I think mine may end up sending before yours because the date listed is 1969.  Anyway, when there's one email hung, almost all other emails sent *also* hang.  The last time this happened I had to actually delete everything in the queue before I could get anything to send.

While troubleshooting this I encountered some information that points to a potential Reverse DNS configuration (although for me that was a red herring, it might be worth looking into for your issue).

Other than that, the only relevant errors that I can find in the logs say:

Apr 13 12:48:15 ****** citserver[2218]: SMTPCQ: Msg No 14767: already in progress!
Apr 13 12:48:15 ****** citserver[2218]: No external notifiers configured on system/user

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Tue Mar 24 2015 05:09:53 EDTfrom pusaken @ Uncensored Subject: Outbound mail beeing stuck without error

Hello everyone,

I am having trouble with my outbound smtp-queue. Since my smarthost provider enforced higher security standards I had to switch to google. Therefore I changed my smarthost configuration acccordingly, and - after a message from google pointing out that a "less secure app" tried to send mail and was blocked - I lessened the google account preferences to allow less secure access.

But now the outbound smtp queue behaves oddly. New items are added with "next attempt" in Jan 1970 (which is ok I think) but they are not processed. Instead they sit there waiting for santa clause or someone else. There is no outbound error (like connection refused or connection interrupted, which I got while the smarthost was blocking citadel).

Actually one mail accidentially got sent tonight - I don't know why this one got through.

Is there a way to clean the message queue? When will a send attempt be made, when the date reads Jan 1970?

Might a complete configuration reset of citadel help? How can I accomplish that?

Thanks for your help,

kindest regards,

Pusaken

Hello all

I have just set up citadel on a raspberrypi, by "easy install" and it is running happily (well it is receiving and delivering mail).

I notice in the terminal and in syslog:

Called as: /usr/local/citadel/citserver
Apr 14 10:52:54 livy citserver[8218]: libcitadel(unnumbered)
Apr 14 10:52:54 livy citserver[8218]: Loading citadel.config

Apr 14 10:52:54 livy citserver[8218]: configuration setting c_nodename is empty, but must not - check your config!
Apr 14 10:52:54 livy citserver[8218]: configuration setting c_port_number is not -1 (disabled) or a valid TCP-Port - check your config! Default setting is: 504
Apr 14 10:52:54 livy citserver[8218]: citadel should not be configured to run as root! Check the value of c_ctdluid

I presume this is an error(s) in the compiling config, as this looks like the C source code. Is there an easy way to rerun the compilation, preferably without losing the setup I have running?

I'm not very familiar with installation from source.

Thanks for any advice
