oh, i already do have ssl enabled - though i concluded after watching this presentation on security that STARTTLS on outgoing connections would be of use:

how can i be sure (test) that the outgoing emails (sent on to other web servers) are being encrypted?

Actually I just used telnet and STARTTLS is available.

Looks like https://www.starttls.info isn't working

Well, I haven't watch that but it also has disadvantages.

With STARTTLS your users may opt of TLS then they will send their password without encryption.

If you have inexperienced users you are better off forcing port 465 and turning off port 25 and 587

Okay now I am getting it. I been watching your video.

Let me explain

First there was port 25, when ISPs started blocking 25, we email providers added a second port that would be 587

Then we added port 465 for SSL so we had port 25 and 587 for plain and 465 for encrypted connections.

Then TLS came out and we added STARTTLS to both port 25 and 587.

So what is the difference between SSL and STARTTLS?

SSL is forced encryption from start to finish on port 465.

TLS is a plain connection to either port 25 or 587. Then the user/client before sending username and password can ask the server to turn on encryption but doesn't have to.
So STARTTLS is the choice, and 465 is forced encryption.

What they are talking about is also adding forced STARTTLS.

That is pointless, and also we need a plain port for development, debugging etc.

Solution is just use SSL (port 465), and block port 25 and 587 and you will have forced encryption.

Subject: How Citadel marks Spam?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello,
I have a Citadel server with Spamassassin. And I set Citadel to mark spam
emails. I tested that Spamassassin is working and puts
X-Spam-Level: ***
X-Spam-Status: True, score=999.0 required=5.0
in the header.

But how does Citadel mark the email as Spam? In the Mail room there is no
difference between normal and spam emails.

Regards, Erwin.

Ok, thank you.
I have one more problem. I configured Spamassassin to change the Subject to
mark the email as spam. I put in the /etc/spamassassin/local.cf the line
rewrite_header Subject ****SPAM(_SCORE_)****
But the subject line is unchanged with spam emails.
That is unexpected, any idea why?

  1. This is Citadel support, not Spamassassin
  2. Das ist nicht genug info
  3. Have you restarted Spamassassin after changing local.cf?
  4. Beantwote 3 nicht.

Anyone using Thunderbird, I been troubleshooting for hours now and thought this might be helpful.

Thunderbird no longer supports CA certificates.

If you can't get and send any mail, remove the CA certificate and import certs for each server to fix the problem

Dear All,

I found the solution about this issue. There was not installed the "locale" directory.
